Rudolf Hess Grave Exhumed To Stop Neo-Nazi Pilgrimages

Amazing this is still a problem Germany has to deal with.

The grave holding the remains of Adolf Hitler’s deputy Rudolf Hess has been destroyed to stop it being used as a pilgrimage site by neo-Nazis.

Hess’s bones were exhumed at the graveyard in the town of Wunsiedel, southern Germany, early on Wednesday.

The remains will be cremated and then scattered at sea.

Hess was captured after flying to Britain in 1941 and sentenced to life in prison. He killed himself in a Berlin jail in 1987 at the age of 93.

It doesn’t help that they have banned the swastika. Doing that just gives it power.

GOP House Candidate Rich Iott Ups His Nazi Dressup Defense

Wow, this is crazy. Even for a Republican.

Ohio Congressional candidate Rich Iott got grilled by Anderson Cooper last night on his rather unusual hobby of dressing up as a member of the 5th SS Wiking Panzer Division, a unit in the German army during World War II.

Iott defended the members of the unit, who he said ‘wanted to fight what they saw as a bigger threat to them than Germany,’ so they joined up with the Nazis to fight the eastern front of the war against Soviet forces. ‘I don’t think we can sit here and judge that today. We weren’t there the time they made those decisions,’ he said.

Iott called ‘what happened in Germany during the second World War one of ‘the low points in human history,’ but defended the Wiking Division when Cooper referred to them as collaborators: ‘I don’t know that I would put that label on them. They were doing what they thought was right for their country. And they were going out and fighting what they thought was a bigger, you know, a bigger evil.’

Holocaust Deniers Are Really Sick, Twisted, SOBs

Carolyn Yeager is one such psychopath.

The aim of the thoughtful Germans who ran the place actually was “reform, re-education and rehabilitation.” Inmates were taught trades there. Townspeople in the surrounding area saw life at Auschwitz as “luxurious,” what with the inmates’ “attractive red-brick sleeping quarters,” complete with “bunk beds with mattresses … flush toilets, porcelain-covered stoves for cozy heating, and double-paned casement windows.” The paths were “tree-lined,” there were flowers planted before every barracks, and the Nazis regularly showed movies to the inmates.

Yes, Auschwitz had an art museum, a library, regular concerts and sporting events, a “theater for music and drama,” a swimming pool (sometimes used for water polo) and a brothel for lonely inmates — all round, as Yeager writes, “a flourishing cultural life.” It also had two fine post offices because “the Geneva Convention rules, strictly followed by the Germans, ensured the sending and receiving of mail by all prisoners.” Why, the kindly Nazis even provided special pre-printed cards and letter forms! And their health care system was world class — after all, for the Nazis, “the health of the labor force was a prime concern.”

This, at least, is the view of Carolyn Yeager, a woman of leaden stupidity who took a walking tour of Auschwitz last year and decided that the accounts of thousands of victims, perpetrators, camp liberators and Nazi officials including Auschwitz’s most infamous commandant were all hogwash — a transparent ploy by post-war propagandists to say ugly things about caring Germans.

Hitler May Have Had Black, Jewish, African Roots

Take it with a grain of salt because its from the Sun tabloid, but my guess is there’s probably some truth to this.

Tests on a DNA sample taken from one of his relatives show that the dictator could have had north African roots.

A journalist working for a magazine in Brussels managed to get hold of a sample from Alexander Stuart-Houston, 61, a grand-nephew of Hitler living in America, after picking up a serviette he had dropped.

Suspected Nazi Samuel Kunz Indicted In Germany

A former Nazi death camp guard has been charged with participating in the murder of 430,000 Jews and other crimes during the Third Reich, German prosecutors said Wednesday.

Samuel Kunz, 90, was informed last week of his indictment on charges including participation in the murder of 430,000 Jews at the Belzec death camp in occupied Poland, where he served as a guard from January 1942 to July 1943, prosecutor Christoph Goeke in Dortmund said.

Kunz is also charged with murder over ”personal excesses” in which he allegedly shot a total of 10 Jews in two other incidents, Goeke told The Associated Press.

German Women’s Involvement In The Holocaust

Their hands got dirty too.

The Nazi killing machine was undoubtedly a male-dominated affair. But according to new research, the participation of German women in the genocide, as perpetrators, accomplices or passive witnesses, was far greater than previously thought.

The researcher, Wendy Lower, an American historian now living in Munich, has drawn attention to the number of seemingly ordinary German women who willingly went out to the Nazi-occupied eastern territories as part of the war effort, to areas where genocide was openly occurring.

‘Thousands would be a conservative estimate,’ Ms. Lower said in an interview in Jerusalem last week.

While most did not bloody their own hands, the acts of those who did seemed all the more perverse because they operated outside the concentration camp system, on their own initiative.

A Disqualifying Passage: No, Nazis Were *Not* Socialists

In any article talking about Nazism, there is one passage or a variation of it, that often comes up on the right. Writing at Big Journalism, Warner Todd Huston gives us today’s version of it:

remember the Nazis called themselves the National Socialist Party

Whenever somebody writes this, you should instantly stop reading what they wrote. Because whoever writes something like that has no clue. The Nazis weren’t socialists. They hated socialists. They hated anything to the left of, well, Nazism. When Hitler first assumed power he killed his political opponents – communists, leftists, and actual socialists. The “socialist” in the Nazi party was a name, and no more. It’s like saying that the “United Klans Of America” represents real America because “America” is in the name. It’s absurd. It’s the real world manifestation of Jonah Goldberg/Glenn Beck history mangling and people who use it are either being deceptive or (more likely) stupid enough to believe it.

No matter how you come to it, it’s wrong on about a million levels.

Glenn Beck Needs A History Lesson

That won’t really help, because the man is stupid on purpose. But he tries to say here that Nazis got their propaganda techniques from progressives. This is part of his long (not working) campaign to get “progressive” to have the same negative connotation often associated with liberal. That aside, it was the conservative right in America who defended Nazism. Figures like Father Coughlin and the American First types were the most vehemently opposed to American involvement and those groups on the right also involved themselves in anti-semetism. These groups kept on at their aid and comfort for Nazi Germany up until the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Then two liberal, progressive Presidents led the country to victory in its most important war ever.

The remains of Adolf Hitler were burned in 1970 by Soviet KGB agents and thrown into a river in Germany on direct orders from the spy agency’s chief, a top Russian security official said this week.

The head archivist of Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) — the successor to the former Soviet Union’s KGB — confirmed for the first time the chain of events that led to the disposal of Hitler’s body, and who ordered the operation, in an exclusive interview with Russia’s Interfax news agency.
