Secret Service Investigating Conservative Blogger For Twitter Threat Vs. The President

7:29 pm EST March 21st, 2010 | Conservative | 19 Comments

Who we thought they were.

As Congress entered the final round of debate Sunday over the controversial health insurance reform bill, a self-described conservative blogger used his public Twitter account to urge the assassination of President Barack Obama. U.S. Secret Service spokesperson Max Milien confirms to DailyFinance: “We are aware of the actual posting and are actively investigating.” A request for comment from a Twitter spokesperson hasn’t been returned.

As the blog Jezebel has reported, Soloman (Solly) Forell, apparently enraged by the impending passage of the health insurance reform bill, used his Twitter account to call for the assassination of Barack Obama, while also tweeting that since the country survived the assassinations of Lincoln and Kennedy, ‘we’ll surely get over’ this one, too.

Internal GOP Memo Shows GOP Not Interested In Health Care Reform

12:53 pm EST July 21st, 2009 | Republicans | 49 Comments

A memo being circulated in GOP circles shows us much of what we already knew: the right isn’t interested in reforming the existing health care systen, and in fact their overriding goal is to prevent President Obama from doing so. The Republican alternative to health care reform being enacted by the president and Democrats is for you to pray for your ailments to be cured and to pray for the mountain of debt caused by medical needs to evaporate.

Video: Obama Birthers Vs. Rep. Mike Castle

The best part is the yells from the crowd in approval. It’s almost as if we had liberals working on the right to keep them chasing this b.s. issue in order to distract them from reality.

Kudos to Rep. Mike Castle for not taking the bait. Of course, for that, the GOP nutters will probably primary him and end up electing a Democrat.

Harry Reid To Vote To Increase The Flow Of Guns Across State Lines

7:16 am EST July 21st, 2009 | News | 35 Comments

gunRemind me again why this man is even in the senate, let alone leading the Democrats?

The latest measure, offered by Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.), has far greater reach. Offered Monday as an amendment to the defense authorization bill, it would allow people to carry concealed firearms across state lines, provided they ‘have a valid permit or if, under their state of residence . . . are entitled to do so.’

The amendment is opposed by 400 mayors, including New York’s Michael R. Bloomberg (I) and Boston’s Thomas M. Menino (D), who outlined their objections in a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry M. Reid (D-Nev.). They noted that at least 31 states prohibit alcohol abusers from obtaining concealed-carry permits; at least 35 states bar people convicted of certain misdemeanors from becoming gun owners; and at least 31 states require people to complete gun-safety programs before securing a weapons permit.

But Reid voted for both pro-gun measures earlier this year and is viewed as a likely ‘yes’ on Thune’s amendment, although he has not declared a position. A vote on the amendment could come Wednesday, said Jim Manley, Reid’s spokesman.

It is time to seriously reconsider the senate leadership of Harry Reid. Because not only is he amazingly inept – being regularly out gunned by the GOP minority – he gives cover to the GOP by voting with them on many of these idiotic issues.

Also, the GOP love of state’s rights suddenly disappears when its a gun issue.

Henry Louis Gates Jr. Statement On His Arrest By Cambridge PD

12:28 am EST July 21st, 2009 | News | 58 Comments

The other side of the story… (written by his lawyer)

Professor Gates was driven to his home by a driver for a local car company. Professor Gates attempted to enter his front door, but the door was damaged. Professor Gates then entered his rear door with his key, turned off his alarm, and again attempted to open the front door. With the help of his driver they were able to force the front door open, and then the driver carried Professor Gates’ luggage into his home.

Professor Gates immediately called the Harvard Real Estate office to report the damage to his door and requested that it be repaired immediately. As he was talking to the Harvard Real Estate office on his portable phone in his house, he observed a uniformed officer on his front porch. When Professor Gates opened the door, the officer immediately asked him to step outside. Professor Gates remained inside his home and asked the officer why he was there. The officer indicated that he was responding to a 911 call about a breaking and entering in progress at this address. Professor Gates informed the officer that he lived there and was a faculty member at Harvard University. The officer then asked Professor Gates whether he could prove that he lived there and taught at Harvard. Professor Gates said that he could, and turned to walk into his kitchen, where he had left his wallet. The officer followed him. Professor Gates handed both his Harvard University identification and his valid Massachusetts driver’s license to the officer. Both include Professor Gates’ photograph, and the license includes his address.

Professor Gates then asked the police officer if he would give him his name and his badge number. He made this request several times. The officer did not produce any identification nor did he respond to Professor Gates’ request for this information. After an additional request by Professor Gates for the officer’s name and badge number, the officer then turned and left the kitchen of Professor Gates’ home without ever acknowledging who he was or if there were charges against Professor Gates. As Professor Gates followed the officer to his own front door, he was astonished to see several police officers gathered on his front porch. Professor Gates asked the officer’s colleagues for his name and badge number. As Professor Gates stepped onto his front porch, the officer who had been inside and who had examined his identification, said to him, ‘Thank you for accommodating my earlier request,’ and then placed Professor Gates under arrest. He was handcuffed on his own front porch.

Fox News ’62: Wacky Jack Makes “Moon” Speech

9:17 pm EST July 20th, 2009 | News | 14 Comments

Sep. 12, 1962
(HOUSTON) — Amid increasing evidence of his unstable mental condition, President Kennedy today announced in a speech at Rice University that he was beginning a program to send America to the “moon”. The audience in attendence seemed mostly puzzled by the President’s moon talk.

“A man on the moon? That’s a ridiculous idea.”, said little Charlie Krauthammer, 12, president of his neighborhood’s “Lil’ Neocon Society”. It does seem like an odd endeavour for Kennedy, especially when you consider that there are still questions remaining from the 1960 election in which many observers believe Kennedy stole the election from Nixon.

The president caused jaws to drop even further when he insisted that a moon landing would occur before the end of the decade – supposedly some time in 1969 at the latest. “President Kennedy’s lack of scientific knowledge is dangerous,” said Harry Trunbridge of the Conservative Coalition of Scientists. He continued: “We all know that dangerous cosmic rays prevent man from going any further than low earth orbit. Plus, there are space monsters on the moon.”

The president’s spokesman disagreed with these bold, proud Americans, possibly due to Communist influence over the administration.

Video: Former Canadian Health Minister Debunks Republican Lies On Health Care

8:47 pm EST July 20th, 2009 | News | 13 Comments

Leave it to Republicans to insult Canadians. I mean, those maple-syrup loving bastards are our closest pals! They’re practically Americans with funny accents.

Sometimes when you step back from this debate you wonder WTF we’re actually “debating”. The British, French, and Candian systems cover people when they need care. Ours doesn’t. We should do better. Why the heck is anyone arguing against this?

Abstinence Only, Southern Politics = More Teen Pregnancy

7:35 pm EST July 20th, 2009 | News | 9 Comments

juno

Via John Cole comes this obvious data.

Teenage pregnancies and syphilis have risen sharply among a generation of American school girls who were urged to avoid sex before marriage under George Bush’s evangelically-driven education policy, according to a new report by the US’s major public health body.

In a report that will surprise few of Bush’s critics on the issue, the Centres for Disease Control says years of falling rates of teenage pregnancies and sexually transmitted disease infections under previous administrations were reversed or stalled in the Bush years. According to the CDC, birth rates among teenagers aged 15 or older had been in decline since 1991 but are up sharply in more than half of American states since 2005. The study also revealed that the number of teenage females with syphilis has risen by nearly half after a significant decrease while a two-decade fall in the gonorrhea infection rate is being reversed. The number of Aids cases in adolescent boys has nearly doubled.

The CDC says that southern states, where there is often the greatest emphasis on abstinence and religion, tend to have the highest rates of teenage pregnancy and STDs.
