Lord Of The FliesWelcome to the tea party. Now, unfortunately they are taking America down at the same time. But the implosion here is pretty insane.

GOPers chant ‘fire him’ at Paul Teller

House Republicans on Wednesday morning were calling for the firing of the Republican Study Committee top staffer after he was caught sending e-mails to conservative groups urging them to pressure GOP lawmakers to vote against a debt proposal from Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio).

Infuriated by the e-mails from Paul Teller, the executive director of the RSC, members started chanting “Fire him, fire him!” while Teller stood silently at a closed-door meetings of House Republicans.

NYT

Members of the House Republican caucus said after a morning meeting that Mr. Boehner opened by urging the rank and file to “get your ass in line,” but then listened as many of them voiced lingering concerns.

Insisting to members that their bill, rather than the one offered by Senate Democrats, was the path to an agreement, Mr. Boehner added: “This is the bill. I can’t do this job unless you’re behind me,” recalled people who attended the meeting.

End Of The Tea Party

11:26 am EST April 19th, 2011 | Conservative | 37 Comments

This was inevitable. “Tea Party” was always a way to say “Republican” without attaching oneself to the epic failures of the Republican party. In 2009 and 2010, the right was all enthused to freak out over a black president stand up for “liberty” and engage in revolutionary cosplay. Astroturf can only go so far.

Racist Tea Party E-Mail Shows How Not Racist They Are

8:39 am EST April 18th, 2011 | Conservative | 144 Comments

Remember, the Tea Party is based on serious policy disagreements with Obama and not just bigoted people freaking out over our first black president. And when they send out emails like this comparing Obama to a monkey, it is totally not racist of them at all. I know this is true because I saw it on Fox News and why would they lie?

When you value ignorance over everything else, you end up being led by very ignorant people. This isn’t an aberration for conservatism and the tea party, but in fact a feature.

Tea Party Patriots Get Rich Quick

3:29 pm EST February 16th, 2011 | Conservative | 11 Comments

Tea Party activists seem to have giant sucker signs on their heads.

Lately, Tea Party Patriots (TPP) has started to resemble the Beltway lobbying operations its members have denounced. The group’s leaders have cozied up to political insiders implicated in the Jack Abramoff lobbying scandal and have paid themselves significant salaries. TPP accepted the use of a private jet and a large donation of anonymous cash right before a key election, and its top officials have refused to discuss how the money was spent. And recently, the group has hired several big-time fundraising and public relations firms that work for the who’s who of the Republican political class, including some of the GOP’s most secretive campaign operations.

As TPP’s leaders entrench themselves in Washington, local activists the group represents have accused them of exploiting the grassroots for their own fame and fortune while failing to deliver any meaningful political results. “Tea Party Patriots? I can’t attribute one victory to them at all,” says Laura Boatright, a former TPP regional coordinator in Southern California who has become an outspoken critic. “Where’s the success with what they’ve done with all this money? My view is that it’s just a career plan” for its national leaders—namely Jenny Beth Martin, who in 2010 was named by Time as one of the 100 most influential people in the world, and Mark Meckler, now a regular commentator on Fox News. (Meckler and Martin did not respond to a request to comment for this story.)

Christine O’Donnell To Build Addition To Home, In Totally Unrelated News She Has A PAC

2:31 pm EST February 8th, 2011 | Conservative | 22 Comments

Ok, I’m joking, but just a little bit.

Christine O’Donnell has announced a new PAC to go and investigate “the left.” This PAC will be run out of her home, apparently, and considering her history of using campaign funds to pay things like her rent – this seems to be the continuation of a very excellent con job.

No, seriously. This is one of the leading voices in the media for the right. This isn’t some guy on the corner ranting and raving madly, but in fact a person with a tv show that has hosted numerous conservative authors, think tanks, and yes – members of the House and Senate. This is one of their major minds.

And he is a complete idiot.

Michele Bachmann Wants To Cut Benefits For Disabled Veterans

10:13 am EST January 28th, 2011 | Conservative, Republicans | 60 Comments

No, really, you guys are making this way too easy.

Tea party favorite Rep. Michele Bachmann, R-Minn., has unveiled a plan for cutting $400 billion in federal spending that includes freezing Veterans Affairs Department health care spending and cutting veterans’ disability benefits.

Her proposed VA budget cuts would account for $4.5 billion of the savings included in the plan, posted on her official House of Representatives website.

Paul Sullivan, executive director of Veterans for Common Sense, said cutting veterans’ health care spending is an ill-advised move at a time when the number of veterans continues to grow as troops return from Iraq and Afghanistan. Sullivan said he finds it difficult to see how VA could freeze health care costs without hurting veterans.

VIDEO: Michele Bachmann’s Hilariously Bad Tea Party Response

8:56 am EST January 26th, 2011 | Conservative | 48 Comments

Because history must preserve the full detail of this epic failure.

What was she thinking? I know the Tea Party is just the modern John Birch Society, but the lack of basic media savvy in this piece is brilliant.

I don’t want to hear any teleprompter jokes about Obama either. At least he knows how to use his properly.

When you wonder: How can someone this clueless be elected to federal office? Remember that these people voted for George W. Bush twice.
