Sean Hannity Is Right, We Should Have A European Style Safety Net

10:19 pm EST November 8th, 2010 | Conservative, Democrats, Liberals, Republicans | Comments Off

Here’s Sean Hannity, lamenting that America hasn’t yet followed in the footsteps of Germany, France, and Great Britain in introducing austerity measures.

It may shock you, but Sean is right. Sort of. You see, the nations cited by Hannity are all making austerity cuts of various types.

BUT.

Those states all have something we don’t have here in America: A wide and far reaching social welfare state. We have a patchwork quilt here in America, but outside of the extremes of society we don’t have things like the NHS here in America.

So while the cuts are causing chaos in some European countries, they’re mostly not going to radically alter the European social welfare state. For goodness sake, France is upset the retirement age is rising to… 62 (from 60). By comparison the retirement age in the USA is 66. And again, our social welfare state is paltry compared to France’s.

So, Sean Hannity is right. We should follow in the footsteps of Europe. We should have a well-designed social welfare system that allows us to take the costs off of business to unlock capitalism. Then, we can have similar austerity measures to our European friends.

Of course, this isn’t want Hannity thinks. He thinks we have something comparable to a European social welfare state because it says so right here on the GOP talking points.

A right-wing New Jersey blogger was convicted at his third trial Friday of making threats against three federal judges in Illinois in retaliation for a ruling supporting gun control.

A Brooklyn jury deliberated less than two hours Friday before finding Hal Turner guilty of making death threats.

A judge jailed Turner, of North Bergen, N.J., following the verdict. His attorney declined comment.

Hannity Goes Over The Line Ethically, Even For Fox News

6:15 pm EST April 15th, 2010 | Media | 7 Comments

Fox puts Hannity’s balls in a jar

Rally organizers had listed Hannity, who is on a book tour, as the headliner of the four-hour Tax Day event at the University of Cincinnati. The rally, expected to draw as many as 13,000 people, was set feature speakers such as “Liberal Facism” author Jonah Goldberg and local Tea Party leaders. Participants were being charged a minimum of $5, with seats near Hannity’s set going for $20, according to the Cincinnati Enquirer, which reported that any profits would go to future Tea Party events. Media Matters for America noted that Hannity’s personal website directed supporters to a link to buy tickets for the Cincinnati rally.

But senior Fox News executives said they were not aware Hannity was being billed as the centerpiece of the event or that Tea Party organizers were charging for admission to Hannity’s show as part of the rally. They first learned of it Thursday morning from John Finley, Hannity’s executive producer, who was in Cincinnati to produce Hannity’s show.

Furious, top officials recalled Hannity back to New York to do his show in his regular studio. The network plans to do an extensive post-mortem about the incident with Finley and Hannity’s staff.

Sean Hannity’s Homage To “Big Government” Liberalism

10:20 pm EST March 25th, 2009 | News | 41 Comments

This is the logo to Fox News Channel’s “Hannity”:

The logo is instantly recognizable because it mimics the logo of the Interstate Highway system.

As most students of American history know, the Interstate Highway system was a product of Republican president Dwight D. Eisenhower. Ike was the kind of Republican that doesn’t exist anymore – interested in using the strength of the government to improve lives and commerce across the country without being beholden to the radical fringe.

Let’s go to the tape:

In 1956 the pieces finally fell into place. Although the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1956 contained many provisions affecting the Interstate System, the key legislative phrase in section 108 is breathtakingly simple and direct: “It is hereby declared to be essential to the national interest to provide for the early completion of the ‘National System of Interstate Highways,’ as authorized and designated in accordance with section 7 of the Federal-Aid Highway Act of 1944.”

That simple phrase–”the national interest”–is all the justification the legislators who created the bill thought was needed, perhaps because they believed the interest was obvious, widely understood, and shared.

Well, clearly Eisenhower was some kind of communist.

After Pearl Harbor, General George C. Marshall called him to Washington for a war plans assignment. He commanded the Allied Forces landing in North Africa in November 1942; on D-Day, 1944, he was Supreme Commander of the troops invading France.

Ah, right.

So what kind of claptrap does Sean Hannity, who uses the icon of the largest public works program – all 46,876 miles of it – say about now investing in our infrastructure and building up America in a manner similar to Ike?

So, that’s your modern conservative movement.

Sean Hannity’s Subconscious: OMG The President Is Black!

9:33 pm EST March 19th, 2009 | News | 7 Comments

I’m sure it’s just a coincidence that when speaking about Obama and the NCAA Tournament, what came out of Sean Hannity’s mouth was almost NAACP.

I can just imagine the epic struggle in old bullet-head’s noggin’ every night. Screaming there in the background is the refrain OMG HE’S BLACK OMG HE’S BLACK!
