Murdoch Papers Hacked Gordon Brown, Got Child’s Medical Records
Tweet
Not only is the Murdoch gang criminal, they are immoral as well.
Journalists from across News International repeatedly targeted the former prime minister Gordon Brown, attempting to access his voicemail and obtaining information from his bank account, his legal file as well as his family’s medical records.
There is also evidence that a private investigator used a serving police officer to trawl the police national computer for information about him.
That investigator also targeted another Labour MP who was the subject of hostile inquiries by the News of the World, but it has not confirmed whether News International was specifically involved in trawling police computers for information on Brown.
Separately, Brown’s tax paperwork was taken from his accountant’s office apparently by hacking into the firm’s computer. This was passed to another newspaper.
Report: Rupert Murdoch Paper Also Targeted Families Of 7/7 Terror Bombing For Phone Hacking
Tweet
Wow. Even for the company that brings us Fox News, this is stunning.
The phone-hacking crisis enveloping the News of the World intensified on Tuesday night after it emerged that Scotland Yard has started to contact the relatives of victims of the 7 July 2005 attacks to warn them they were targeted by the paper.
The revelation that bereaved family members may have had their mobile phone messages intercepted by Glenn Mulcaire, a private investigator employed by the paper, in the days following the 2005 London bombings will heap further pressure on the title’s owner, News International, part of Rupert Murdoch’s media empire.
Graham Foulkes, whose son David was killed in the attack at Edgware Road tube station, confirmed that he had been contacted by officers from Operation Weeting, the Met’s investigation into phone hacking. He said they had told him his mobile phone number, ex-directory landline number and address had been found in records made by Mulcaire that were recovered from the investigator’s office in south London.
Foulkes’s solicitor, Clifford Tibber, who represents several families who had relatives killed in the terrorist attack, said the news had “come as a terrible shock” to them as they prepared to mark the sixth anniversary of the bombings this week.
Rupert Murdoch Newspaper Hacked Dead Girl’s Phone, Interfered In Investigation

From the same people who bring you the Fox News Channel, and use the same ethical reasoning:
The News of the World illegally targeted the missing schoolgirl Milly Dowler and her family in March 2002, interfering with police inquiries into her disappearance, an investigation by the Guardian has established.
Scotland Yard is investigating the episode, which is likely to put new pressure on the then editor of the paper, Rebekah Brooks, now Rupert Murdoch’s chief executive in the UK; and the then deputy editor, Andy Coulson, who resigned in January as the prime minister’s media adviser.
The Dowlers’ family lawyer, Mark Lewis, this afternoon issued a statement describing the News of the World’s activities as “heinous” and “despicable”. He said this afternoon the Dowler family was now pursuing a damages claim against the News of the World.
Milly Dowler disappeared at the age of 13 on her way home in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey, on 21 March 2002.
News Corp has no shame, but would the people who employed this jackal for years do otherwise?
News Corp. Plays Both Sides Of The Green Issue
Tweet
My colleague Sarah Pavlus has written a great story on how Fox/News Corp. simultaneously pushes “green initiatives” then attacks them on Fox:
When Murdoch launched his company-wide initiative to radically reduce News Corp.’s carbon footprint and combat climate change, one business expert said that it “could be one of the most brilliant strategic moves I’ve ever heard of.”
With Fox News, explained Joe Priester of the University of Southern California, News Corp. had secured a lucrative spot with conservative consumers but had alienated those at the opposite end of the political spectrum. By launching its climate initiative, the company could make a play for more liberal consumers too.
But now Murdoch’s attempt to promote — and profit from — contradictory messages on climate change could put News Corp. on a collision course with its green-conscious advertisers, as environmental organizations that have partnered with the company start to speak out on the damage being done by Fox News.
Two Rupert Murdoch Journalists Arrested For Phone Hacking
Tweet
The scandal across the pond continues
The former news editor and current chief reporter from the News of the World are in police custody after being arrested on suspicion of unlawfully intercepting mobile phone voicemail messages.
Ian Edmondson and Neville Thurlbeck had voluntarily presented themselves at different London police stations this morning and were arrested. It is expected their homes will be searched by officers at midday.
Scotland Yard has confirmed that two men, aged 50 and 42, ‘were arrested this morning after attending separate police stations in south-west London by appointment’.
Glenn Beck: Attack Poodle?
From yours truly, over at Media Matters:
Is Glenn Beck Just Rupert Murdoch’s Anti-Google Attack Dog?
The latest target of Glenn Beck’s reality-deficient conspiracy theories has been Google. According to Beck, Google has been working hand-in-hand with the U.S. government in order to assist an alliance of Islamic radicals and socialists to take over the world. Or something.
But is Beck just doing some dirty work on behalf of News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch?
Murdoch has gone on the record numerous times criticizing Google. Specifically, Murdoch has complained that by aggregating news content, Google is stealing News Corp.’s content. Murdoch went so far as to describe Google’s activities as “steal[ing] all our copyrights” and “steal[ing] our stories.”
Murdoch’s accusations have been widely ridiculed.

“Project Alesia”: Another Rupert Murdoch Digital Product Goes Bust
Tweet

Remember, he’s a genius. The same genius who spent millions on MySpace, etc. Just a total flop on anything digital.
Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp. is ditching an idea one year and $31.5 million in the making: an online newsstand that would have bundled online subscriptions to newspapers and magazine. ‘Project Alesia,’ as it was called, is being abandoned for lack of interest among the publishers News Corp. had pitched.
Reuters’ source says that Alesia is just on hold, but MediaWeek claims the decision is absolute: ‘an entire, dedicated News Corp U.K. operation being dismantled just days before a product was due to go on market.’ Over a hundred people were working on the project; most have been reassigned elsewhere.
