NFL Lockout Over?
Bill Burt of the Eagle Tribune is reporting that things sound good. Who knows?
According to an NFL source, owners and players have tentatively reached an agreement to end the lockout, which entered its 86th day today.
Some coaches and players have been contacted about returning to work probably early next week and as soon as this weekend.
The NFL Doesn’t Work Like This Anymore

Writing about the Redskins drafting LB Ryan Kerrigan, ESPN’s Jeffri Chadiha writes:
Anybody who follows the Redskins recognizes this isn’t a team that is one good draft away from being in contention. The Redskins need to find a quarterback now that the Donovan McNabb era has turned disastrous. They have to bolster their defensive interior with Haynesworth’s future in doubt and running back and offensive line are other questionable areas. In a division as competitive as the NFC East, this team won’t be competing for anything for at least another year.
There’s no re-building anymore. There’s no letting your rookie quarterback hold the clipboard. You have to win now in the modern NFL. The idea that bad teams (like the Redskins) should write off a season as a loss before the first snap is foolhardy and economically tone deaf. Fans no longer have the patience to build a franchise, we’ve had too many teams go from “worst to first” for them to accept the cautious team building of a past era.

At least we start right away playing in the NFC East. Things we don’t know: Who will be the quarterback? Will there be an NFL season? How much will they suck? (Actually, my pessimism after last season’s failure is almost gone. By September I’ll explain with a straight face how they go 10-6 and make the playoffs.)

Tiki Barber Coming Out Of Retirement
Tweet

Here’s your odd sports story of the day:
Tiki Barber has alerted the NFL that he plans to come out of retirement and play in the 2011 season, sources close to the former New York Giants running back said Tuesday.
The agency that represents Barber confirmed the news on its Twitter account.

Rex Grossman Starting Over McNabb For Redskins
Tweet
It’s December, that time of year when the failed Redskins season takes its traditional descent into a farce. This year, it’s Mike Shanahan starting the very horrible Rex Grossman over Donovan McNabb. McNabb hasn’t had a very good season, but it hasn’t been so bad that they should be benching him for a horrific player like Grossman. And yet, they’re doing it.
For those of you playing the home game, this January marks 19 years since the Washington Redskins last played in a Super Bowl. And they aren’t going to play in one anytime soon.

I do not care if it was an ugly/lucky win. A win is a win. They lost, we won. Dallas sucks. Hail to the Redskins.

Beat Dallas.

Gameday is here again. Football is back. And Dallas is up first for our Washington Redskins. New quarterback, new coach, I hope we get some new results. HAIL!

McNabb’s Ankle
Tweet
I don’t know if this is my wishing something to be, but I get the feeling that this story about McNabb’s ankle is Shanahan playing games.
It could be a smoke screen or just a cautious assessment of his quarterback’s health, but Mike Shanahan says he’s not certain that Donovan McNabb will be available for the Washington Redskins’ season opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
‘I really don’t know for sure,’ Shanahan said Sunday. ‘That’s why it’s day by day. We’ll see how it goes.’
It can be deceptive watching it on tv, but McNabb’s injury just didn’t seem like that big of a deal.
Did I mention? I HATE PRESEASON.

Hooray! Football is here again. The one time of year when the Redskins actually have a shot at something! Some things change, like of course new QB Donovan McNabb, while others remain the same: Albert Haynesworth is an out of shape overpaid crapload.
Hail!
