Fearless Prediction: Daniel Bongino Will Be The Latest MD Republican To Epic Fail

11:29 pm EST May 31st, 2011 | News, Politics | 2 Comments

Daniel Bongino, a secret service agent, is set to run as a Republican next year to attempt to oust Maryland Senator Ben Cardin.

This won’t work, for many reasons.

Cardin is a quiet, nose to the grindstone progressive-leaning senator. The exact kind of senator Maryland tend to elect time and time again.

Cardin defeated Michael Steele by double-digits in 2006, which is about as close a Republican is going to get in a statewide race in Maryland.

Bongino’s campaign chair is Brian Murphy, who ran for the gubernatorial nomination and lost, even with an endorsement from Sarah Palin.

Bob Ehrlich, who beat Murphy, got his butt kicked by Governor O’Malley.

Did I mention Maryland is a very Democratic state? Furthermore, next year is a Presidential election. An ad or two with the “Obama-Cardin” line should be all that is necessary here.

But I encourage the Maryland Republicans, who must now certainly be the most frustrated GOP state party around, to push this doomed-to-fail candidacy.

Incompetent Chris Christie Attacks Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley

4:09 pm EST February 3rd, 2011 | Politics | 7 Comments

New Jersey governor Chris Christie gets all jerky about Martin O’Malley calling him out for his abusive behavior. Christie defends his abuse, alleging that O’Malley is “kissing up” to unions for electoral success.

Chris Christie

This is kind of funny when you consider how Chris Christie’s administration totally bungled their application for Race To The Top — while at the same time O’Malley’s team aced the process. When Chris Christie was pushing around people who don’t agree with him, O’Malley was being named education governor of the year.

No wonder Christie went on Fox to whine.

Bob Ehrlich Already Writing Off Montgomery County, Baltimore City

1:05 am EST April 3rd, 2010 | Maryland, Republicans | 4 Comments

The campaign isn’t even officially kicked off yet, but Bob Ehrlich is already in retreat. From a citizen named Frank Bell who met Ehrlich:

He did mention that even though his favorability ratings in Prince Georges County was 48% at the last election, only 10% of the people in that county voted for him.  So when someone suggested that inroads into Montgomery County and Baltimore City had to be made for him to win, he disagreed.  He has never won those two jurisdictions and knows that those voters will never vote for anyone other than a democrat.

Maryland Republicans Try To Go All Teabag, Slapped Down

8:54 am EST March 29th, 2010 | Republicans | 4 Comments

One of the benefits to being an overwhelmingly Democratic state like Maryland is the ability to slap down stupid like this.

Maryland’s Democratically controlled House of Delegates on Saturday rejected an attempt by Republicans to follow Virginia’s lead and set up a showdown with the Obama administration over whether the federal government has the right to require individuals to buy health insurance.

Maryland’s Ron George Hates The Chesapeake Bay

How else to explain a state delegate like Ron George signing on to some science-denying crackpot bill that would have the net effect of causing further environmental damage to the Chesapeake Bay?

Judd Legum is running for that seat and has a petition up to stop George’s assault on the Bay.

Governor O’Malley In Iraq

5:43 pm EST February 26th, 2010 | News | 2 Comments

Maryland governor Martin O’Malley is visiting the troops in Iraq.

Lt. Governor Anthony Brown (a vet) e-mails:

One of the reasons I am so proud to work with Governor O’Malley is because of his strong support for Maryland’s military families and our veterans. For 25 years, I have served as a member of the United States Armed Forces and I am proud to continue my service as a Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserves. Five years ago, I had the opportunity to serve in Iraq alongside some of the most dedicated and patriotic men and women I’ve ever met. Today, nearly 2,000 Maryland-based soldiers and men and women of the Maryland National Guard are on active duty overseas.
