John Kerry To Waste Time, Senate Resources On Newspapers
Tweet
Yes, the senate is legendary for wasting time on issues it has no business being involved in (baseball, for instance) and here is the latest, apparently being led by John Kerry. Please, stop. The newspaper business is killing itself. The bad economy is just giving it the killing blow. The printed daily newspaper is nothing special that needs to be preserved by congressional action. Again: horse and buggy in a combustion engine world.

Glenn Greenwald has a list of all the Islamic terrorists being held in America right now. The borders haven’t melted yet. For me this issue connects with the attack on John Kerry in 2004 for having the nerve to argue that much of the fight versus terrorism is a law enforcement matter. As I’ve noted multiple times, law enforcement agencies here and abroad have had success in capturing and trying terrorists. “9/11″ is not an even half-way decent argument for throwing out what has worked.

McCain = Kerry

Republican concerns about John McCain are almost identical to the complaints Dems had about John Kerry 4 years ago at this time.
Several party leaders said Mr. McCain needed to settle on a single message in the final weeks of the campaign and warned that his changing day-to-day dialogue — a welter of evolving economic proposals, mixed with on-again-off-again attacks on Mr. Obama’s character — was not breaking through and was actually helping Mr. Obama in his effort to portray Mr. McCain as erratic.“The main thing he needs to do,” said Vin Weber, a former Republican congressman from Minnesota, “is focus on a single message — a single, concise or clear-cut message, and stick with that over the next 30 days, regardless of what happens.
“He’s had a lot of attack lines. But it’s time to choose.”
UPDATE: Man, it’s one thing for John McCain to take the weekends off, but its even worse when his campaign offices in important places like Ohio follow the leader.
Misremembered History (Bush Led Kerry In 2004 Polling)
Tweet
In the last week or so, I’ve seen a repeated mantra on conservative blogs and forums as the poll numbers have shifted more towards Sen. Obama: Kerry led in the polls going into the 2004 election. Now, we all lived through that election and I was pretty damn sure Kerry was behind. I remember staring at the polls, hoping Kerry would get over his deficit. But I checked on the numbers anyway. Here’s what the average of the major polls by RealClearPolitics was:
So, while the final number was off, the majority of the polling saw a win for Bush. In many ways, the current polling chart looks quite similar. But with, you know, good guys in the lead. This sort of throws a monkey wrench in the growing conservative conspiracy theory that the polls are liberally biased (I kid you not, go read a thread on Hot Air or Free Republic in the next few days).
I’m the last one who will admit that I know for sure Sen. Obama is going to win. There are a lot of variables at play. But I feel positive about the likely result. I think Obama has the momentum, money, and support to win.
I have a strong feeling Barack Obama will be our next president. And if that happens, everything… everything changes.
ALSO: I should take this moment and note that there are few things I loathe more than undecided voters. Obama and McCain have been campaigning for this thing for almost two years now. They’ve both participated in debates, advertised all over the country, and been the subject of thousands of news stories. The general election for the most powerful nation in the world is 28 days away and you’re telling me that you’re still unsure? Well then I’m sorry, you don’t get to vote. If only.

Maybe it’s because he’s a recent veteran of the biggest war to date with the Republican noise machine, but John Kerry has been great as a surrogate for Sen. Obama. We sure botched the vote on that guy in 2004.
