“Two Winnipeg high school teachers have been pulled off the job after they performed a lap dance in front of about 100 students during a school-sanctioned pep rally. “Mary Gowans, 40, allegedly was involved in an inappropriate relationship with a former student, which Global News has learned is a 15-year-old boy. The boy came forward to police and reported an ongoing sexual relationship that started in June, 2009. The Scarborough school serves children in Grades 7 and 8; Ms. Gowans taught French and physical education, and coached many school teams, including baseball. She has been charged with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.” Link

“The Canadian government says it’s ready to assist Haiti after a powerful earthquake struck today near the capital of Port-au-Prince where many are feared dead. Foreign Affairs Minister Lawrence Cannon says about 6,000 Canadians are believed to be living and working in Haiti and so far there are no reports of any Canadians injured. “Samaritan’s Purse is rushing to assist in Haiti after a 7.0-magnitude earthquake rocked the desperately poor Caribbean nation late Tuesday afternoon, toppling houses and public buildings, including a hospital, and leaving victims running through the streets in terror. Samaritan’s Purse is sending staff to lead an emergency response that will likely include food, drinking water, cooking kits, hygiene kits, and construction materials to build temporary shelters.
