Never again should a presidential candidate be introduced to a crowd as "the next president of the united states" lest they be accused of hubris. Sheesh. Nitpick much, Wellstone?

Mmm... delicious pretzel logic. Drool...

And no, there's no difference between those statements... nor do I think that either of them should be criticized for those sorts of statements. Presidential candidates have spoken this way forever, this is nothing new.

'Course, that acknowledgment brings into question the point of OW posting on it in the first place, but that's a whole 'nuther point.

Seriously, Wellstone. When Oliver makes a posting noting Obama's saying "when I take office" and you reply only with "Hubris", I think it fair to assume you mean he's showing prideful arrogance in assuming he will be president. And if he's showing arrogance with his assumption he will be president, then so is she ("when I am president", not "if"). A minor difference in phrasing doesn't make any difference in teh assumption being made.

If he's showing arrogance and hubris, and deserves to be criticized for it, then so is she.

If you meant something different, you'll have to provide more than a one word comment.

Hubris: Definition

From Greek tragedy, that quality of prideful arrogance, of challenging the Gods, that leads to a protagonist's downfall.

I have no idea what fevered cult trance Ollie's in, his "hypocrite" post makes no sense whatsoever.

HRC: WHEN I AM ELECTED PRESIDENT

OBAMA: I'M GOING TO BE SWORN IN IN JANUARY.

I think those two ways of making that statement are very different, don't you?

durablend is being hyperbolic. But many of GWB's 28-percenters do at least consider him the Bestest American President Evar (and of those who are still on the fence, he stands only below Ronald Reagan).

Which is crap.

He has said, and he told me today, that he won't go above 28 percent. So we are talking about the possibility of a doubling in the capital gains tax. He was averaging at about 25 percent.”

Wha? How does going from 15% to 25% equal double?

And contrast that with what the dumbass currently in the White House said in 2000:
"Tax Cuts good...because we have such a large surplus"
then
"Tax Cuts good...because the surplus is shrinking"
then
"Tax Cuts good...because we're head for troubling economic times, and we need the stimulus."

No matter what, Tax Cuts good. Obama sounds more like an adult.

Oh, god. I’m Duros now.

You say that like it's a bad thing. :-)

“Hubris,” you may recall, is what led to Rummy’s idealized vision of a cheap war and occupation.

Well, sure, that's what happens when you give hubris to the mentally challenged. It's just like any other tool; you gotta read the fucking manual.

So how long before someone attacks Obama for not sticking with the economic plan he has now?

I mean, look at the flack he took for wanting to adjust any military plan once he sees what the situation is after he takes office.
