Interesting that this isn’t an option for Americans.
Belgian writer, poet and artist Hugo Claus has died aged 78, ending his life by euthanasia, his wife has said.
He had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and had “picked the moment of his death”, Veerle De Wit added. He died at Middelheim Hospital in Antwerp but no further details were given. Euthanasia is legal in Belgium.

Hell, Oliver, Belgium vs. far too much of the world. Just earlier this week a French woman named Chantal Sebire was found dead (and the autopsy confirmed her death was not natural) after a French court had denied her appeal for euthanasia. Ms. Sebire suffered from a rare and incurable growth of tumors in her nasal cavities that robbed her of her sight, taste, and smell in addition to causing monstrous disfigurement.
But the law in France said she had to live with it. She apparently told the law to go fuck itself.
To France’s credit, the Health Minister has called for a review of the law. The chances of that happening here are slim-to-none.
When our dogs and cats are stricken with old age or disease that will cause them immeasurable suffering, we are willing to grant them the relief of death. When people want the same consideration, you can’t do so, because of something people believe God may or may not have “said.”
Is Belgium even a country anymore?
The last I checked the country was a complete basket case in need of euthenasia itself.
Check again and re-assess.
They seem to be doing okay for a country of their size. I especially like the part where their budget is balanced, as opposed to being, say, 9.21 trillion dollars in debt.
Haha Christie, you’re fuckin’ right on! Fuck other countries, especially those little bitchy ones we could wipe off the earth in 2 minutes with big fucking bombs! U-S-A! U-S-A! U-S-A!
“The last I checked the country was a complete basket case in need of euthenasia itself.”
And you checked this how? By traveling there and spending time with actual Belgians? I’m thinking not …
Those Belgians, they’re so evil.
Stupid Flanders.
