Clinton Supporter Geraldine Ferraro Gets Caught In Racial Comments, Says She’s Being Targeted Because She’s White

The nerve of this woman, who let’s be frank, was picked to run for vice-president with Walter Mondale because she was a woman - not because she had a distinguished legislative history or was any sort of national leader.

interesting that she chose to defend her right-wing style remarks on Fox News, a right-wing “news” network. But Clinton hasn’t removed her from her team yet. Different rules, you know.

UPDATE: Inside the Clinton message machine.

Racism does go more than one way, but this is NOT an example. Ferraro had a bigot eruption that sent the wrong message to black voters, something Hilary’s campaign has continously dabbled in. It also, as a white man, sent the wrong message to the rest of the country that some Dems will wallow in Republican type attacks. This is why I refuse to vote for this woman. The number one issue for me is bringing the country together and she only promises to be George Bush the Democratic Version.

Not supporter, Ollie. Key public advocate and campaign representative. This isn’t like some random white peeved suburbanite in Lakewood, Ohio.

    Great Scot, Oliver!

She said “I’m being targeted because I’m white?!?” Wait, let me play the clip so I can hear that. Hold on.

    um, OW?

Did you link to the wrong clip? Because I don’t hear her saying that anywhere in this one.

Look I know you feel strongly about the campaign. Is it too much to expect your headlines to be accurate now?

Quote from the article I linked above:

“Any time anybody does anything that in any way pulls this campaign down and says let’s address reality and the problems we’re facing in this world, you’re accused of being racist, so you have to shut up,” Ferraro said. “Racism works in two different directions. I really think they’re attacking me because I’m white. How’s that?”

    Allright. You’re right.

I was looking in the video clip. Your headline is accurate and I denounce and reject myself for saying otherwise.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 durablend

Fineman on MSNBC says this is the way the Clintons are going to keep playing it…no firing, no denouncement, just keep playing the race card.

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 Oliver Willis

You reject and denounce, but have you initiated TAKEBACKS? No, I didn’t think so. No takebackses. How do you look at yourself in the mirror without stabbing yourself?

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 Oliver Willis

Well, to be honest I wouldn’t put a whole lot of stock into Howard Fineman’s reporting.

    Vampire. No reflection.

Your pal BTD over at TalkLeft is of course treating this as something that “is awful” for Obama. And to think pro-Hillary blogs call Obama supporters delusional. That blog has really gone off the deep end.

Politico just unearthed this quote from Ferraro in 1988:

“if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.”

Once is a mistake, twice is a pattern.

The 21st Century version of the “Southern Strategy” is alive and well in the DLC run HRC Campaign……

I am beyond shocked shocked that so called Democrats would stand for these comments from anyone let alone a Democratic Party “leader”…

This latest incident should shame the even the most ardent supporters of HRC …(I see that is a pipe dream as these people now claim that it is Obama playing the race card ??!???)

Expect more race baiting in the weeks to come as HRC goes “all-in” and tries to win the “white blue collar” vote in the middle of my home state of Pennsylvania.

Boy I cant wait for the ebonics filled, Obama supporting robo-calls that will be unleashed by HRC in cities like Harrisburg, Scranton, York, Wilkes Barre, and Johnstown. ;-)
They dont call it Pennsyl-tucky for nothing.

You’re right about Ferraro, who needs to a) STFU and b) not go on Fox for any reason whatsoever (no self-respecting Dem should). There’s no defending her on this.

I think you do have to regard Ferraro as the prototype for Hillary, though. Lots of parallels (except the husband being President).

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Fred

Ferraro said almost the EXACT same thing about Jackson in 1988.

So she is on the public record as a long term racist. Clinton renouncing her is not enough. She needs to explain why she courted the help of a woman with this sort of history.

It amazes me how these so-called liberals reveal what hypocrites and basically how stupid they really are. Liberalrob writes that “no self-respecting Dem should” meaning that no self respecting dem would go on the Fox News Channel. If you were really an open minded liberal rather than being a closed minded bigot, you welcome the chance for a Democrat to air their views on any venue. Are you that arrogant liberalrob?

Not to be outdone in ignorance, Lib4 from Pennsylvania shows how narrow minded and ignorant he/she really is. First assuming that all white Southerners are closet Klansmen? Whether you know it or not lib4, ignorance and bigotry are alive and well in New England, the West Coast, and also in your hallowed state of Pennsylvania. It is not just a Southern thing.

Suggestion to both of you. Read and learn facts before you get on here with your two bit opinions.

Damn you, Q. Now I’ve got to clean up all the milk that just shot out my nose.

Fox is not a “forum” but a for-profit mouthpiece of conservative politics with a long history of bad faith smears. But John above makes a good point. It’s to Ohio and Pennsylvania, New Jersey voters of European origin that a lot of the worst racist crap has Bren slung. Ferraro is not trying to pitch to Southerners but to Pennsylvania’s suburbanites, to South Philly that looks a lot like the outer boroughs.

    From the 1988 flashback:

And former representative Geraldine A. Ferraro (D-N.Y.) said Wednesday that because of his “radical” views, “if Jesse Jackson were not black, he wouldn’t be in the race.”

Discussing the same point in Washington, Jackson said, “We campaigned across the South . . . without a single catcall or boo. It was not until we got North to New York that we began to hear this from Koch, President Reagan and then Mrs. Ferraro . . . . Some people are making hysteria while I’m making history.”

So help me out - what history was Jackson making? First liberal male to run for the Democratic Presidential nomination?

All things being equal, yeah, you’re right. But all things are not equal - Fox News is a propaganda arm of the Republican Party, and when Democrats appear on that network, it never helps the party (though it may help the politician at the expense of the party - see Exhibit A, Lieberman, Joe).

Democratic views are never aired on Fox without passing through a thick layer of distortion. Therefore, it makes no sense for Democratic politicians to make appearances there.

Geraldine looks and sounds so much like my ex-mother in law, it scares me a little/

I love that motivational poster in the 2nd clip. Big white letters saying TEAMWORK with a picture of hyenas ripping up a zebra carcass.
    Teh funny’s in the details.

Yo retard…where did I say all southerners are bigots…..in order to make a point I referenced a preferred method of exploiting race that just happened to be used by Republicans and democrats in the sounth in the 1960’s. I know your brain can only operate on one level at a time so i am taking the time to explain this to you.

Believe me I know that bigotry is alive and well all over this country sir….I have personally faced it myself in my neck of the woods even in supposedly tame suburban Philadelpia….

While youre at it look this up:

Yo idiot lib4. Learn how to spell. It is spelled “South.” You spelled “sounth.” Go back to 4th grade.
