Should he resign? Yes. As should vitter and the others who paid for perostitutes while in office.
The real news is that wiretapping is a great tool for corporations and cheneyites to use in getting rid of their adversaries.
So w=Whatever happened to that Washington madam’s black book, by the way?
I really don’t care about Vitter. If the Republicans are not disgusted enough by his behavior to demand accountability, that is their business. We should hold our politicians to a higher standard.
He should join the Republican Party. Then he would get a standing ovation like Diaper Dave did.
And I don’t care about sex scandals, either.
The problem the dems face, though, is that Vitter will be lost to history, forgotten, and the GOP will pay no price overall for his transgressions. Spitzer, on the other hand, will be draped around the Dems necks for the next few months and will almost certainly be used as fodder for the election. While I agree that it is best for him to resign, the party needs to be prepared to frame this story in a positive way, i.e. “we do more than just talk about morals and ethics” or something.
Well, this is not a ’sex’ scandal. Spitzer used the power of his office to bust several prostitution rings and now he’s taken part in one.
bill, we are not like Republicans. We have an inherent sense of right and wrong. For the last 15 years or so, Republicans have not shared this sensibility which is why Livingston and Gingrich can be cheating on their wives whilst simultaneously getting angry with Bill Clinton. I refuse to lower my standards on their account. It is why Foley can chair the Childhood Exploitation subcommittee whilst simultaneously emailing 16 year old boys. It is WHY Vitter gets a standing ovation.
The media has every right to discuss the morals and ethics of our party. It is not a frame to say that Spitzer fucked up. It is also valid to say that we should pay a political price for it. Our moral high ground has been lowered.
Jeez, August, tell us how you really feel.
That was a carpet f-bombing. Wow. Henry Rollins thinks that was over the top.
Easy, Z, I wasn’t suggesting adopting Republican tactics. Rather, I think the Dems need to be careful that they don’t let the GOP grab this story and control the framing, a problem they have repeatedly suffered from in the past.
While I agree that it is best for him to resign, the party needs to be prepared to frame this story in a positive way, i.e.
How about: we told Mr. Spitzer to pack his stuff and go find a job.
The smartest stpuid m—————— in the business. A rising star, reduced arguably to sub-McGreevey levels of political leprosy.
General rule: you can survive a money scandal and you can survive a sex scandal, but you can rarely survive the double header.
