I was quite turned off by Sen. Clinton’s soft-pedaling of the untrue “Obama is a Muslim” smear during her interview on 60 Minutes. Anything to win, I guess. Just wish we had seen some of that gumption back in October of 2002.

100 percent class, those Clintons.
As Obama said a while back, she’ll say anything to get elected. If she could only have gotten away with being less ambiguous about misstating Obama’s faith…
I hope we can finally bid the Clintons good riddance soon and shake whatever remains of their self-centered myopia from the Democratic Party and the DNC, too.
Question:
“You don’t believe that Senator Obama’s a Muslim?”
Clinton’s answer:
“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that.”
Yup.
The Obama smear, repeated early and often, that she’s a liar and “She’ll say anything to get Elected” gets a pass, though, right?
After all, EVERYONE knows that…
Wellstone - That’s a very generous edit of Clinton’s response. And if that’s all she said–as she should have–then there’s no problem here.
But:
“Of course not. I mean, that, you know, there is no basis for that. I take him on the basis of what he says. And, you know, there isn’t any reason to doubt that,” she replied.
“You said you’d take Senator Obama at his word that he’s not…a Muslim. You don’t believe that he’s…” Kroft said.
“No. No, there is nothing to base that on. As far as I know,” she said.
“It’s just scurrilous…?” Kroft inquired.
“Look, I have been the target of so many ridiculous rumors, that I have a great deal of sympathy for anybody who gets, you know, smeared with the kind of rumors that go on all the time,”
She comes so close, over and over again, to rejecting the rumor because the facts don’t support it…and then she undercuts this response by making it sound like she’s just “trusting” Obama when he says he’s not a Muslim.
It’s like she’s trying to give herself a back door just in case Obama does turn out to be a Muslim terrorist in disguise.
Obama isn’t a muslim. But why the fuck is everyone responding to this as if being a muslim is a bad thing? Yeah, it would make getting elected president impossible. But why? Because the right wants to paint Islam and all muslims as either terrorists or secret terrorists. Simple as that. The whole thing is disgusting.
Correct answer:
“Steve, that’s a ridiculous question. Why are you asking me that? If you have questions about Mr. Obama’s faith, ask Mr. Obama.”
Quaker -
“______, that’s a ridiculous question.”
This is the correct response to something like half of the questions the candidates have been asked by professional journalists.
But then, we know what happens when a presidential candidate dares to roll their eyes and sigh when speaking with somebody less intelligent than they are.
exactly. It’s a ridiculous question undignified of response. I wish more candidates were willing to shame these journalists who insist on taking up right wing talking points as if they were legitimate news worthy of investigation.
Especially when the “journalist” asks the same stupid question three times in a row.
Ms. Clinton, like many others, makes the mistake of trying to re-word her answer. If she doesn’t want to seem as flippant as my previous suggestion sounded, she could have tried this:
KROFT: “You don’t believe that Senator Obama’s a Muslim?”
CLINTON: “I believe he’s a Methodist.”
KROFT: “You said you’d take Senator Obama at his word that he’s not…a Muslim. You don’t believe that he’s…”
CLINTON: “Like I said, I believe he’s a Methodist.”
KROFT: “It’s just scurrilous…?”
CLINTON: “Steve, you asked what I believe. I believe he’s a Methodist.”
