Obama & Space

NASA is at a serious crossroads right now, with the era of the shuttle ending and no serious major initiatives in the works. Seriously: Mars, bitches.

Obama: “I’ve got a strong belief in NASA and the process of space exploration. I do think that our program has been stuck for a while - that the space shuttle mission did not inspire the imagination of the public - that much of the experimentation that was done could have been conducted not necessarily with manned flights.

So, he’s going to continue the Bush plan to go to Mars? Good for him.

Nice to see some things can, occasionally, cross political borders. JFK promised the Moon within 10 years, Lyndon Johnson made it possible, and Richard Nixon made it happen.

What Bush plan would that be? As best I can tell, he announced the intent to go to Mars before his re-election, and that’s been about it.
