There were a lot of people at his local mall, ergo the economy is doing well. No foreclosures, no stagnant economy and certainly no gas price increases. Because… there were people at the mall.

Is this one of those questions intended to cause some murderous robot to seize up as it uses all of its resources to determine some undeterminable quantity?
That’s a good one, but do you really have a murderous robot after you, and can you call 911?
That reminded me of the time Vodkapundit tried to debunk global warming because there was snow outside his Colorado home last spring.
Just because the mall is busy doesn’t mean everyone’s buying stuff.
Shorter Instaputz: “Remain Calm! All is Well!”
Seriously though, is it so hard for them to admit that the economy is hurting under a Republican administration? It can even be reasonably (though erroneously) argued that the administration isn’t responsible for this, why doesn’t Reynolds just admit the obvious?
“…why doesn’t Reynolds just admit the obvious?”
The scary thing is, there are people who will read his post and think, ‘Damn! I knew the media was lying to me about the economy!’
I was going to try to make the point that one has to stretch hard to make it seem like Reynolds is saying “my local mall seems to be doing ok, therefore the whole economy must be doing ok.” Then I remembered that when it comes to Reynolds, no stretch is too far for Oliver.

Ummm…. That’s exactly what Reynolds was saying. Reynolds was using the crowds at one local mall as an indicator of the economy as a whole.
If Reynolds wasn’t lazy, he might have walked up to one of the cashiers and asked them how business was doing. He would have found that most of the people at the mall were there to socialize or to spend less money than they did one year ago.
A recession doesn’t necessarily mean that we are going to be eating out of garbage cans just as global warming doesn’t necessarily mean that we’re going to get swallowed by the sea. Yet both can put some part of the population into real hazard.

Um, so it’s your assertion that Reynolds just felt like letting his readers know the conditions of his own local mall with no larger implication? It makes one wonder then why he felt the need to call it RECESSION WATCH.
RECESSION WATCH: No downturn in evidence at West Town Mall today.
It is, in fact, exactly like the dunderheads who say that snow on their windowsill means that global warming is a hoax. A tiny world-view for tiny minds.
Heh, indeed.
Speaking of Vodkapundit, he debunked global warming from his front porch again.
How stupid is Glenn Reynolds?
Whoah.
They have not yet been able to find a measuring device that will go that low.
He is near Absolute Zero Kelvin stupidity:
That is when you have no idea of the depths of your misguided, abject ignorance and stupidity, but march on resolutely into wankery.
