Jenna Bush and soon-to-be hubby, Henry Hager celebrated their last couple weeks of freedom in South Florida. Bush, 26, celebrated her bachelorette party in Boca Raton, FL in mid-February with a group of female friends, while Hager, 29, headed to South Beach the following weekend to party with the boys for his bachelor party.
The secret is out: Prince Harry has been serving on the front line with his British army unit in one of Afghanistan’s most lawless and barren provinces.
Harry is the first royal to serve in a combat zone since his uncle Prince Andrew flew helicopters during Britain’s war with Argentina over the Falkland Islands in 1982.
British officials had hoped to keep the 23-year-old’s deployment secret until he had safely returned, but they released video of Harry serving in Helmand Province after a leak appeared on the U.S. Web site the Drudge Report.

I’m speechless.
Of course it is nothing new. It is nothing we don’t already know about our leaders who themselves managed to avoid serving in a war they supported in their own youths. Still, it does make you wonder if a Constitutional Republic is better than a Constitutional Monarchy. It is really never a question in England whether the Princes will serve in the military. Actually, I believe it is mandatory, a part of their hereditary titles.
Not only do they serve but they serve in hot combat situations. If memory serves I think Andrew’s helicopter got shot down during the Falklands.
What a far cry from our own leaders who themselves “had other priorities.”
Oddly enough, no pictures of Kennedys or Clintons made the cut. Not even Al Gore III’s mug shot.
Or either Obama, for that matter. Guess they all had better things to do, as well.
J.
Guess they all had better things to do, as well.
You mean, like oppose the war?
Christ, you’re stupid.
jay tea. mr 19% to the end. dumb as dirt on top of it. I bet he also supports wars that he won’t fight in.
Oh, I’m sorry, Pollak. I didn’t recognize the stench of the “chickenhawk” argument, lightly seasoned with the “children are property of their parents, and should be held accountable for their actions” garnish.
Here’s a hint, moron: the Constitution kinda put an end to slavery and involuntary servitude, and has outlawed “corruption of blood” from the outset. That means, if you can wrap your tiny little brain around this fact, that no American owes ANYTHING simply because their parents happened to hold some kind of position or office or privilege. To use politicians’ children as political cudgels against their parents takes a very special, very loathsome kind of coward.
I once tried to convince Oliver of this by asking why Chelsea Clinton, upon her 18th birthday, wasn’t sent off to Kosovo to carry out her father’s policies there. He, not getting the point, agreed she should have gone.
There’s also an element of anti-military bias in this argument that needs to get called out. We have an all-volunteer military, have had that for over 30 years, and as a result have the most competent, most professional, most capable force the world has ever seen. A very large part of that is precisely because it’s all-volunteer, and they see their service not as a burden, but as a calling.
In brief, they don’t WANT anyone in the service who not only wants to be there, but has taken great strides to get into the service and is proud and determined to do what they see as their duty. To start filling the ranks with a bunch of people who are there against their will would not only wreck their morale, it’d wreck their effectiveness.
Jesus, is there anything you people won’t trash in the name of making your petty political points?
J.
For people that claim to love the military, they get awful defensive when it is suggested that someone actually JOIN the military.
Wow, that’s a whole mess a’ purty words to make a straw man argument, Jay. Here’s a hint back: you cracked a “joke” (I guess technically you’d call it that) suggesting that anti-war Democrats are hypocrites because they don’t send their kids to wars…. that they want to end.
Hence, you’re a fucking idiot.
It does sort of undermine the “we’re fighting for the survival and freedom of Western civilization” argument, when our leaders can’t even convince their own kids it’s that important.
I’ll demand Jenna & Barbara join the military just as soon as you start voluntarily sending in all those higher taxes you’ve been clamoring for.
What’s been missed so far in this story is how Drudge compromised the national security of two countries by disclosing the Prince’s deployment.
Time was that Republicans were against disclosing classified information, but I guess they are for it now. Remember how al Quada was going to attack TODAY because the NY Times showed pictures of Donald Rumsfeld’s driveway?
August, the only ones who are fucking idiots are the people who actually take stock in these stupid kinds of comparisons.
That being said, drop me a note when all of the Democrats who support our military efforts in Afghanistan are signing their kids up for active military duty.
Thanks
“That being said, drop me a note when all of the Democrats who support our military efforts in Afghanistan are signing their kids up for active military duty.”
You truly are fucking retarded.
You can support the war and not sign up for it at the same time. However, you can not attack people’s patriotism for not supporting the war unless you are doing everything you can to win it. This includes signing up yourself, or getting your kids to do the same if they are old enough.
Was that simple enough for you to understand? Or do I need to break it down into grunts?
CS, that’s a bunch of nonsense, ok? I can’t count how many times I’ve been told, “Well, go enlist if you support the war!” simply because I’ve said I supported it. Support the war, but not ready to enlist? Oh, then you’re nothing but a CHICKENHAWK! It didn’t come after I questioned somebody’s patriotism because they opposed the war.
This notion that the challenge only comes after another person’s patriotism is attacked is crap.
Shorter CS: Those goalposts that were over here? Well now they’re over THERE!
Let it be said that I don’t question your (or Oliver’s or pidge’s or EL’s) patriotism. (Judgement, reasoning skills, and morality maybe, but not patriotism). We don’t disagree on wanting what’s best for the country. We just disagree on what “it” is. And yet I’ve still been subjected to innumerous chickenhawk slanders.
CS, if you truly believe in your last post, then surely you’ll be the first to jump down the throats of folks on your side who throw out that slur without the object of denigration first having reached the “questioning patriotism” plateau first thereby cheapening the taunt. Otherwise, you are nothing but a talking head spouting empty meaningless rhetoric.
CS, if you truly believe in your last post, then surely you’ll be the first to jump down the throats of folks on your side who throw out that slur without the object of denigration first having reached the “questioning patriotism” plateau first thereby cheapening the taunt.
Of course he won’t. Remember Farris, you and I are “sub-human.” Considering the source, it isn’t much an insult, if any at all. But you’d have better luck getting Jenna Jameson to join a convent than you would getting CS to show any kind of consistency.
CS says:
“However, you can not attack people’s patriotism for not supporting the war unless you are doing everything you can to win it.”
However, you can attack the patriotism of those people who, in Complete Shithead’s opinion, are not acting sufficiently patriotic by demanding their children forfeit any chance of a life of their own and submit to being extensions of their parents for as long as he deems it necessary.
Hey, I kinda missed it when whether or not a policy is the right one for the nation based on who argues for it and how, not on its own merits. Was there a memo?
J.
“Of course he won’t. Remember Farris, you and I are ’sub-human.’”
Yes. You two are sub-human. A fact you are on a desperate crusade to prove over and over again.
George Fucking Bush said, ‘You are either with us, or you are with our enemies.’ Okay? Do you understand? The fucking president of the United States said if you don’t agree with him, you are helping the terrorists. That is an attack that is much greater than simple saying you are unpatriotic.
If someone says you have to join every war you support, they are wrong. But that’s not happening here. The Republicans, as a party, have stated that if you are not a supporter of the war, you are not a real American.
There are dickhead Democrats out there, but the Republicans actually have their assholes at the top.
Jay: “CS, that’s a bunch of nonsense, ok? I can’t count how many times I’ve been told, ‘Well, go enlist if you support the war!’”
So that would be twice then? (I’m calling you stupid, by the way. Just in case you can’t figure it out.)
Jay Tea: “Hey, I kinda missed it when whether or not a policy is the right one for the nation based on who argues for it and how, not on its own merits. Was there a memo?”
And Jay Tea jumps in to prove he’s illiterate.
Always nice to get the opinions of stupid people.
