    I still think Wilentz’s argument is very strong, but at least somebody stepped up to the plate and tried to answer it on the merits. To make his already weak case, however, this blogger had to ignore the smoking gun–the Obama campaign memo linked to in Wilentz’s post. Just read it.
    And Obama could have defused the MLK controversy at any time. He chose not to.

    Obama is supposed to be a leader. If he thought Clinton was disrespecting King he should have said do. Instead he made a brilliant cutthroat political move, staying above the fray while his surrogates put the Cintons in Don Imus purgatory.
    It’s not my idea of bringing people together, but it worked. I just hope he has a lot more tricks up his sleeve if he gets the chance to face McCain.
