Henry Hyde Dies

Clearly one of the leaders in the raping of the constitution will have plenty of time to discuss his youthful indiscretion with the Almighty in the after life. Do not let the door hit you, sir.

Arkansas’ Denny Altes: Today’s Republican Bigot Eruption

Here we go again. They can’t help themselves.

image An Arkansas legislator apologized Thursday for an e-mail in which he wrote that "we are being outpopulated by the blacks" and "we are being overrun" by illegal immigrants.

But state Sen. Denny Altes insisted the comments in the e-mail he sent earlier this month to former Fort Smith Mayor Bill Vines were not racist.

"I apologize and I am sorry if it hurt anyone’s feelings. … I’m sorry if it offended anyone, but I didn’t consider it a racist remark," Altes told The Associated Press Thursday.

Altes, who is white, wrote in the e-mail that he was in favor of returning illegal aliens to their countries, but "we know that is impossible."

"We are where we were with the black folks after the Revolutionary War," Altes wrote. "We can’t send them back and the more we (anger them) the worse it will be in the future…. Sure we are being overrun but we are being outpopulated by the blacks also."

Altes is not apologizing. He’s using the weasel language "I’m sorry if it offended anyone". And his friend McQ is buying it.

What’s also funny is in this video where he backpedals to the tried and true racist trope of how his friends come from all races, sort of like Stephen Colbert’s "black friend".

Man, I just don’t know why more black voters don’t vote Republican.

Romney’s Abortion Flip Flops

Mitt Romney’s flip flops have gotta be responsible for like half of Youtube’s traffic nowadays. The least principled candidate in U.S. history is hit for his jumping and jiving abortion position.

Giuliani Used Police Department As Limo For Mistress

Oh Rudy.

Well before it was publicly known he was seeing her, then-married New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani provided a police driver and city car for his mistress Judith Nathan, former senior city officials tell the Blotter on ABCNews.com.

"She used the PD as her personal taxi service," said one former city official who worked for Giuliani.

Audible Eyeroll, Michael Steele Edition

What do you do after 920,235 people vote against you, and 893,107 people vote against your boss Bob Ehrlich — putting you both out of office? If you’re a fool like Michael Steele you run to the sweet embrace of the loony Washington Times to write an editorial about what’s wrong with the changes Gov. O’Malley had to make to increase revenue to clean up the mess you guys left in Annapolis. I’m so glad the most power these idiots have anymore is to kill the very few trees the Washington Times prints on.

The shuckin’ and the jivin’ continues.

Mitt Romney Opens The Door On Religion

On the CNN/Youtube debate, Mitt Romney said he believed everything in the King James Bible. He was clearly pandering to the conservative “Christian” base of the Republican party. But I think it is a fair follow up question to ask Romney if he believes everything in The Book of Mormon as well, which is a foundational text of his faith.

As a side note I think it’s funny that Mike Huckabee, a former minister, clearly said he doesn’t think everything in the bible is literal truth (an obvious point to anyone who has ever cracked it open - even if you’re the most devout Christian the Bible is not exactly a clear recitation of fact) but Romney couldn’t stop his pander gene from kicking in.

How Awesome Is The Republican Youtube Debate?

I have not seen a better bitchfest since the Dynasty catfight in the pool in the 1980s. Oh my goodness, all these guys trying to out-wingnut each other to prove how much they really really are going to be the next president. If Hillary vs. Obama is a “fight”, this is a war.

UPDATE: Man, John McCain is a crazy warmonger, but his statement against waterboarding torture rings with such moral authority and it makes Mitt Romney look like the little rich boy he is. It won’t get him any help with the nutty Republican base, but John McCain is so right. “Life is not 24 and Jack Bauer”. This is the one guy who was actually tortured in the field.

UPDATE2: I love how the Republican candidates just get totally pwned by Gen. Keith Kerr on the question of “don’t ask don’t tell” and how stupid it is - because they’re so afraid of teh gay, and so is the Republican base.

UPDATE3: Mike Huckabee says we should send Hillary Clinton to Mars. But remember, they don’t hate women.

Rudy Giuliani Apparently Used Taxpayer Money For His Affair With Judith Nathan

Once again, Rudy Giuliani’s judgement comes into question.

As New York mayor, Rudy Giuliani billed obscure city agencies for tens of thousands of dollars in security expenses amassed during the time when he was beginning an extramarital relationship with future wife Judith Nathan in the Hamptons, according to previously undisclosed government records.

The documents, obtained by Politico under New York’s Freedom of Information Law, show that the mayoral costs had nothing to do with the functions of the little-known city offices that defrayed his tabs, including agencies responsible for regulating loft apartments, aiding the disabled and providing lawyers for indigent defendants.

At the time, the mayor’s office refused to explain the accounting to city auditors, citing “security.”

This is a Ben Smith story, so caveats clearly apply, but the documents seem to back it up. It is stories like this - and I’m positive there are tons more - why people like me do not fear a Rudy Giuliani candidacy.

Hillary Hate: They Can’t Contain Themselves

The Hillary Hate just makes Senator Clinton stronger, and if she’s the nominee these clowns will undoubtedly go over the line - again - and turn public sympathy in favor of Sen. Clinton.

Clinton’s corps of high profile enemies on the airwaves include populist conservative radio hosts like Glenn Beck, who has branded her “Satan.”

Another popular conservative radio host Sean Hannity, has dubbed his show the “Stop Hillary Express.”

Clinton, a veteran of the fiercely partisan war raging through US politics, has in the past lambasted the “vast right-wing conspiracy” targeting her and her husband.

But the fierce attacks against her may amount to a back-handed compliment — testimony to a hardnosed, highly competent campaign, and a formidable politician.

In the battle of the wingnut misogynists who comprise the GOP base, bet on Clinton.

President Clinton Didn’t Oppose The Iraq War

UPDATE: Those of you visiting via Andrew Sullivan and other conservative blogs should know that I think Sullivan is full of crap and that President Clinton is one of the nation’s greatest presidents, I just happen to disagree with him on this.

bill clinton in iowaAs one of President Clinton’s strongest supporters and biggest fans, it pains me to point out that what he’s saying here is a load of bull.

During a campaign swing for his wife, former President Bill Clinton said flatly yesterday that he opposed the war in Iraq “from the beginning” — a statement that is more absolute than his comments before the invasion in March 2003.

That’s just not true. I don’t think its right to put President Clinton in the role of war supporter, but if he was against the war only he and Sen. Clinton know for sure because he didn’t say a thing about it. Maybe, as the article goes on, he was silent due to presidential protocol or to not overshadow Sen. Clinton’s vote and subsequent statements, but President Clinton was noticeably silent as the nation went to war in 2003.

You can easily compare his silence to that of his vice-president, Al Gore, who was vocally and clearly opposed to the war from day one. I wondered at the time - and I still do - why President Clinton sat on his hands when he easily would have had a national platform to nullify Bush’s war policy.

There is no public record of any sort to support President Clinton’s assertion that he “opposed Iraq from the beginning”. That just didn’t happen.

Carson Daly Has Writers?

The news really isn’t that Carson Daly is going to cross the strike picket line, but that his show has writers. Even by the very low standards of network television, the Carson Daly show is a singularly unfunny bit of material. I’ve occasionally seen the beginning of the show after leaving the TV on NBC after the actually hilarious Conan O’Brien, and never seen a thing worth cracking a smile let alone a laugh over. I just always assumed Daly had compromising photos of some GE executive and thats how he kept his Byron Allen style TV show on the air.

Rudy Giuliani’s Judgement: Kerik’s Racist Issue

Kerik, GiulianiAgain I note, this is the man who Rudy Giuliani thought should be entrusted with the safety of every single American citizen as Secretary of Homeland Security.

The city will pay $125,000 to settle a suit by a former Correction Department officer who claimed that disgraced ex-Commissioner Bernard Kerik sidetracked his career because he’s African-American.

Former Deputy Warden Eric Deravin agreed to the payout on the day his federal racial discrimination trial was set to start in Manhattan.

Kerik, recently indicted on federal conspiracy charges, was expected to take the stand to defend himself.

Deravin’s lawyer Gregory Lisi said Deravin had accomplished his goals.

“The major reason why Eric brought this lawsuit was to right the wrongs caused by Kerik’s actions and to bring out the type of person Bernard Kerik was,” Lisi said.

Mitt Romney: No Muslims In My Cabinet

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a presidential candidate ever reject appointing an entire group of people just like that.

I asked Mr. Romney whether he would consider including qualified Americans of the Islamic faith in his cabinet as advisers on national security matters, given his position that “jihadism” is the principal foreign policy threat facing America today. He answered, “…based on the numbers of American Muslims [as a percentage] in our population, I cannot see that a cabinet position would be justified. But of course, I would imagine that Muslims could serve at lower levels of my administration.”

As Radar points out, the amount of Muslims in America is comparable to the amount of Mormons in the country.

“Zogby Internet Poll Trial Heats are Odd”

Redskins Sean Taylor Dies

Damn

Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday from the gunshot wound he suffered a day earlier in his Miami home.

“He did not make it through the night,” said Taylor’s attorney, Richard Sharpstein, who called the incident “a ridiculous, unnecessary tragedy.”

Taylor, 24, a Pro Bowl safety whose rocky first years in the NFL had given way to what teammates called a newfound maturity, died at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where he had been taken after being shot once in the leg early Monday morning. Police are investigating the incident as a possible home invasion.
