Hillary Clinton’s "Bad" Night?

As if we needed even more proof that the press and the punditocracy don’t know what they’re talking about, the idea is taking hold that Sen. Clinton had a “bad” night in the debate last night. I think her only real misfire was her non-answer on the New York driver’s license/immigration issue and if she’s smart she’ll get out in front of that. But otherwise the debate was another status quo debate. Obama and Edwards have yet to seriously knock Sen. Clinton off of her game.

The press wants to make the race close so they have something to cover, and they will probably succeed, but the narrative - as it so often does - bears no relation to reality.

    Misfire? Bah!

Which of the other candidates provided an answer that was different or better?

The simple truth of the issue is this: there are millions of people living in New York state who don’t have the required documents to be there. A good number of them drive cars.

    What’s the solution to that?

Start Deporting. It won’t solve the problem overnight (duh!), but neither will any other solution proposed. Plus, it will actually serve as a deterrent to future illegal immigration (versus the Licensing program, which serves as an incentive).

Deporting is not practical, won’t work, and then people will wonder why their goods and services start costing more.

You know what would serve as a deterrent to illegal immigration? Not offering cut-rate jobs to illegal immigrants.

No it won’t. There are been people deported over and over again and they still keep trying to sneak across.

In order to fix the problem, increase legal immigration so you can control who comes into the country. Increased legal immigration will reduce the demand for illegal immigration.

Also, anyone who turns in their boss for illegal labor practices, or any other crimes, should get American citizenship. That would fix a lot of problems.

It won’t solve the problem overnight? Then how long will it take? And should we allow the undocumented to drive without licenses until then?

The MSM woke up to what the rest of us saw: Edwards (and Obama) knocked Clinton off the other night at the debate. Clinton has more homework to do for the primaries and she needs to quit assuming she’s crowned for the GE already. Lieberman supporting her will hurt her cause as well.

See my post at Daily Kos. It’s been on the rec’d list for more than 12 hours.

What do you mean by, “knocked off”?

She may have been challenged, but it’s too early to tell if that will have a measurable effect on her poll numbers.
