Michelle Malkin and the usual gang of idiots are trying to say John Edwards was racist for pointing out the fact - the fact - that current rates of incarceration for young black men are unsustainable and leading to a prison generation. Again, Sen. Edwards was right, on the money, addressing issues that are affecting black Americans. Unlike the Republicans, who couldn’t be bothered to show up at a debate in front of a black audience last night, lest they offend the racists in the base of the Republican party.

“Racists in the base of the Republican party”???
That’s funny I could swear it’s the Dems who have a what? 6-times re-elected KKK member in their midst?
OMG. Classic. You guys are just priceless.
MGG: One man vs. a whole party filled with current KKK members.
And HOW MANY years ago did Byrd leave the Klan? How many times, and how loudly, has he repudiated them?
Besides, WTF does Byrd have to do with Maglalang calling Edwards “racist” for stating a sad fact of life?
Oh, and by the way, breaking news: A man in Texas has been arrested for alleged sexual assault and murder in the hanging death of a six-year-old girl. The perp is white. Would I be “racist” in pointing out that the overwhelming majority of child molesters/killers are white?
Answer that, slapnuts.
“That’s funny I could swear it’s the Dems who have a what? 6-times re-elected KKK member in their midst?”
Yeah, yeah, and it was the Republicans who elected segregationist Strom Thurmond (who left the Democratic party because they weren’t racist enough and joined the Republicans, where he felt more at home) to the senate for 39 years straight.
With that little nonsense distraction aside, Malkin is clearly doing what Republicans do best - projecting. Keep in mind that for them, there are no “facts.” Only world views.
Oliver, this is without a doubt the stupidest thing you have ever posted. How can you possibly defend what John Edwards said? Even if what he said was not racist, it’s in the upper echelon of stupidity and ignorance. And it’s pretty sad that you’ve bought into the myth that we’re headed for some kind of prison generation. There are more African-American males in college than their are in state and federal prisons. Between the ages of 18-24, those in college outnumber those in prison by 4-1.
There’s always improvements to be made and things could get better, but what kills me is that you sit there and get your knickers in a twist about Fred Thompson not knowing about a court ruling in Tennessee and here you are defending John Edwards asinine (if not RACIST) statement and agreeing with such stupidity.
Mind boggling. Truly mind boggling.
John Edwards is absolutely correct.
Not only that, but he’s saying something that blacks say all of the time, if you have ever gone to a black church.
John Edwards has said multiple times that young black men, too many of them, either feel like they are going to die or end up in jail, and in many black churches they say the same thing to make their points. They say that too many young black men are going to jail.
Anyone who rips John Edwards for what he said is an ignorant fool.
Does John Edwards suffer from never “fully” explaining what he means? Yes, he does. But intelligent people know what he meant. Those who get angry with him over what he said are just trying to make trouble because they feel like “they” can’t say it and get away with it.
“Even if what he said was not racist, it’s in the upper echelon of stupidity and ignorance.”
This is quite a laugh coming from a right-wing Bush/Republican supporter. Get your own house in order and you might have a SHRED of credibility when judging the intellect of the other side.
Hmmm… that’s funny. I was just at a two-day summit hosted by the Children’s Defense Fund at Howard University called “Facing the Cradle to Prison Pipeline Crisis” where pretty much every major black leader, preacher, and child advocate attending the summit agreed with the problem Edwards just noted.
But I’m sure they’re just stupid too. I think we should take the immigrant-hating supporter of racial profiling’s word on the status of racial problems in America instead.
It’s important to look at the cost-benefit analysis of being at Morgan for the Republicans.
1) These guys are constantly looking for face time with the media. This was free face time.
2) Morgan is 1 hour from DC, where a lot of them have other business to do. It’s not like it was being held on Alaska’s North Shore.
3) Whoever among the front-runners would have been the one to show up would have gotten the “only one with balls” award that would probably have been bigger in “splash” than any gaffes that could have occurred.
To appease the white black-resenting base, all of these front-runners telegraphed in unison that Black America can go die in a fire. They needed to make that appeasement, lest they lose badly particularly in South Carolina, the home of the U.S. Caucasian Resistance Movement.
“Oliver, this is without a doubt the stupidest thing you have ever posted.”
You said nearly the same thing to me recently and when asked to explain yourself, you ran like a coward.
Why should we debate with you?
It seems like everyone here, yes all of you, are being purposefully obtuse.
The context of the question was the inner city, so he was not talk about all black youth, but those who live in the inner cities.
It’s said that people lack the ability to comprehend things said that are quite clear.
It’s said that people lack the ability to comprehend things said that are quite clear.
I’m sorry, what?
But thank you for making that distinction, a fine-tuned frequency that some folks just can’t hear.

Corrected version - after I’ve had coffee-
It seems like everyone here, yes all of you, are being purposefully obtuse.
The context of the question was the inner city, so he was not talking about all black youth, but those who live in the inner cities.
It’s sad that people lack the ability to comprehend things that are quite clear. Context does matter but we live in sound bite century. It just hurts candidates who deal in more than sound bites and who do not have scripted answers.
Jay, what is the ratio of inner city black males in college v. prison? Still 4 to 1? Don’t bother looking for stats, just make ‘em up.
“Between the ages of 18-24, those in college outnumber those in prison by 4-1.”
Fact-checking Jay’s baloney could turn into a full time job.
Here are the actual numbers from 2004:
18-24 year old black males in college: 465K
18-24 year old black males in prison: 195K
For those with basic math skills, that’s a ratio of 2.3 to 1, not 4 to 1.
And in the interest of comparison and contrast, the ratio of 18-24 year old WHITE males in college vs prison is 28 to 1!
The problem with Jay’s lies is that he is trying to encourage people to ignore the problems.
You have nerve to call people stupid. You work for media Matters an organization that thinks that Dan RaTHer’s phony TANG documents weren’t proven fake!

“Look over there!”
Oliver,
Considering Edwards has a platform much closer to the core of the African American communities concerns, why is it that you don’t hype him more.
I see Hillary and Obama as poor choices for Blacks and Americas undercalss. Edwards is the only candidate willing to confront issues that are key to the Black electorate and struggling members of our society.
Check my more recent post on John Edwards and leave a comment.
