PorBetts

Sure, a big downfield pass looks pretty and makes the highlights on Sportscenter, but I like it when the Skins just pound the ball down the throat of the other team.

Washington’s winning formula rarely changes: stout defense and inspired running. Portis, who set a franchise rushing mark in 2005, watched Betts prosper last year and has bristled at suggestions he may be in decline. After a pedestrian start yesterday, he and Betts led a 191-yard rushing attack against a run-hostile opponent. Although, they had only 76 yards on 20 carries through three quarters (3.8-yard average), they had 81 yards on 14 rushes the rest of the way (a 5.8-yard average). They set up Shaun Suisham’s 44-yard field goal for a brief fourth-quarter lead, and Suisham’s 39-yard game winner less than six minutes into overtime.

“I came in at halftime and talked with Ladell, and he just told me to calm down,” Portis said. “And I calmed down in the second half and everything turned out all right.”

And if teams are worried about PorBetts, that will open up Randle El, Moss and Lloyd for catches.

Are you truly excited to have beaten Miami? In OT? Your expectations must be really low.

1-0 is good in my book if the opponent is Miami, Oakland, Indianapolis, New England or any of the other 27 teams in the league.

And trust me, nobody else in the world has higher than possible expectations for the Washington Redskins year in and out than me.

Wow, the skins look bad. Gonna be a long season. Oliver, you watch football like an 87 year old grandmother.

i don’t remember why brunell ever lost the starting job. last season he never had a game as bad as campbell did yesterday.

Clearly you guys don’t watch the Redskins or understand football. Brunell was a thousand times worse than anything Campbell did yesterday, with the added inability to get the ball down the field. Also, the Redskins won the game. I don’t pretend they looked like the Colts or Patriots but the defense was strong, the running game tight, and the passing game lackluster but vertical.

oliver, clearly you just talk out of your ass and don’t do any research or use actual evidence to support your statements. go to nfl.com and look up the game logs for brunell last year. the stats don’t lie. brunell only had one game last season with a lower rating than campbell did yesterday and only because campbell picked out about 60 garbage yards on that last pass in regulation to randal el. i am very worried about campbell leading the redskins into philly next monday.

You’re gonna come to me with QB ratings? Please. Mark Brunell cannot get the ball down the field. That is an important part of being an NFL quarterback. If you can’t do that, you can’t suit up. Bring on the Eagles.

Sadly, it will be a painfully long season for the ‘Skins.

The game has passed Joe Gibbs by.

The ‘Skins looked better than last year on defense; of course, they were playing a Miami team that doesn’t exactly have a big offense.

On offense, Campbell threw too many bad balls and the ‘Skins coaching staff started to revert to the short dump passes. Nor is Brunell the answer. And let’s face it, the Wash. receiving corps is pretty poor. The plain fact is the ‘Skins don’t have a QB on their roster that would be anything more than a No. 2 on any NFL team. Moreover, there are quite a few NFL teams whose No. 2 QBs would start for Washington.

The running game could be good but it’s not going to take opponents long to figure out they haven’t much to fear from Wash’s passing attack and can stack the box against the run.

I don’t know, I watched most of the game and it seemed to me that Campbell made two perfect passes to Randle El that were critical in the game. Maybe his overall numbers weren’t that great, but the ability to come up with the big play has to count for something. And you can’t deny his arm strength. It was Game 1 !!!!

Can’t wait for the Redskins/Cowboys game Nov. 18th. PorBetts vs. JoBarber.
