Fred Thompson’s Political Calculus

So, Fred Thompson is going to blow off New Hampshire primary voters in a debate on the conservative Fox News in exchange for a Hollywood appearance with Jay Leno?

Um, okay.

Makes sense to me. How many people will watch the nth debate to see his five minutes where he doesn’t announce but instead is forced to respond to other people’s questions. Instead he’ll get a very folksy conversation with Jay.

I hope it works. Thompson polls worse than Giuliani in nearly every state vs. nearly every Democratic contender.

He would make Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Florida practically out of reach for Republicans in ‘08.

Except NH voters are not your normal general election types. Sure, Leno’s rating will be higher, but in actual number of NH GOP primary voters? I dunno.

That’s pretty humorous considering it was on Fixed Noise that he first announced a possible run.

Makes sense that Frederick of Hollywood announces in Hollywood. I expect his concession speech will be delivered from the decrepit set of Hee Haw, thus completing the cycle.

Nah…he’ll deliver his concession speech during L&O (commercial break)
