Spoke to my mom at about 5:30est, she said there was some pretty strong wind and some very weak little trees had blown loose. She also lost power a little bit before we spoke, though they had said they would turn it off from 10 this morning. The Gleaner’s blog has some pictures of serious damage in Kingston (the capital).
I’m cautiously optimistic because the storm’s eye is sweeping along the underside of the island, while my mom is closer to the northeastern area but away from the beach and elevated up in the hills (but not super high up).
Understandably I can’t get hold of her right now, I wouldn’t expect cell service to be working in those conditions.
UPDATE: Got her at 9:24, she’s fine thank goodness. She said the strongest winds have been blowing for the last hour or so. Over the phone I could hear the wind blowing, loud as hell.
She is in my thoughts, as are you. Keep us posted please.
Been thinking about your mom all weekend, OW. Keep hanging in there!
Oliver, I hope your mom and all her neighbors are safe tonight, and that your worries for them are over by the time you read this!
I hope she continues to fare well. My thoughts are with you.
May she (and everyone) be well and fully safe soon.
Hope all stays as mild as possible for your Mom and everyone there.
God Bless your Mom Oliver.
Looks like the storm has moved off Jamaica. Hope all is still well with your mom.
Glad to hear your mom was out of the worst of it, Oliver.
Glad to hear she’s OK.
Very good to hear she’s OK, Oliver.
