Karl Rove crying at the podium is probably the most ridiculous thing I’ve seen in a looooong time. What an odious man.
UPDATE: Hugh Hewitt thinks that Rove may join a Republican campaign and destroy the Democrats. Oh no, the guy who engineered campaigns that lost the popular vote to Al Gore, barely beat John Kerry, and lost the House and Senate for the GOP in the same election is someone we Democrats are quaking in our boots over.
Karl Rove, if I could somehow pay you to join one of the GOP campaigns I would reach into my piggy bank and do it. I want a Democratic president that badly.

I wouldn’t be quite so confident. While you’re quite right about the closeness of Rove’s victories, both races should have been landslides against shrub. I’ve posted my thoughts on why Rove is still quite dangerous.
Maybe Jeb is working behind the scenes.
I am sure that the major number one primo reason rove is quitting is to be in the same state as his college student son.
Jeff Gannon hasn’t relocated to Texas recently, has he?
Rove’s big tactic is to destroy opponents by smearing them. I don’t think he’s a genius, but he did get Bush elected by smearing Gore and Kerry, and I don’t see any reason he couldn’t do it again for some other GOP mediocrity. I think he’s distancing himself so he can start his book, myself.
Something’s up.
Think about it. When Young Master Bush’s inner circle resigns–they tend to give notice several months in advance. Karen Hughes gave about 3 months notice. Bartlett gave well over a month.
Rove is essentially giving 2 weeks notice.
The timing is a little strange, too. The way the Bushies usually handle a story like this by releasing it on Friday evening, for obvious reasons.
Hey, check out this short, satirical “You Tube” video blasting O’Reilly, Hannity, Limbaugh, Ann Coulter and other right-wing pundits. You’ll love it! And, it’s done by an evangelical pastor!

Actually, that is the same Rove that won an electoral college victory when Gore should have easily beaten Bush. When you lose by 3 million votes like Kerry, that’s not ‘barely’ losing. In addition, Rove instrumental in keeping the GOP in control of Congress when in most off year elections (2002), there big gains by the opposition.
You’d be a fool to write the guy off so easily.
Face facts, Jay. Rove left the GOP in considerably worse shape than when he found it.
He helped lose both the House and Senate. And his puppet, Young Master Bush will leave the WH as the worst President in US history.
Heckuva job, Karl!
What are the president’s ratings?
Who is the speaker of the House?
Who is the majority leader of the Senate?
I am sorry, but Karl Rove does not scare me.
Oliver, I didn’t say Rove should ’scare’ you. You’re flippantly dismissing him and that’s a mistake.
“Actually, that is the same Rove that won an electoral college victory when Gore should have easily beaten Bush.”
Gore would have easily won if he hadn’t run away from a winning Clinton record. And yet Gore still won the popular vote. Gore lost that election; Rove didn’t win it.
“When you lose by 3 million votes like Kerry, that’s not ‘barely’ losing.”
The raw number of votes is meaningless. Bush won by only 2 percentage points in the popular vote. And that’s after Rove predicted a Bush victor by 50 electoral votes. Guess what didn’t happen.
Our esteemed host described Karl Rove as:
That would be the guy that helped George Bush win the presidency despite losing the popular vote, and it’s pretty difficult to call a three million vote margin in 2004 as “barely” beating John Kerry.
What are the president’s ratings?
Higher than the Speaker’s and Senate Leader’s ratings. Your point?
John Kerry, to quote Lincoln, snatched defeat from the jaws of victory… Nonetheless the last two elections were manipulated. The fix was in. Nothing else need be mentioned.

SF: Higher than the Speaker’s and Senate Leader’s ratings.
Apparently you do not live anywhere near me, and have never met anyone I know.
If you said that on the street of my town, people would start backing away from you, reaching for their cell phones to report a dangerous lunatic.
Maybe OJ Simpson has a lower approval rating in my community than George W. Bush, but it would be close, and Cheney is currently holding down the lowest spot on the popularity charts. They had to extend the bottom of the chart to account for Cheney.
