He missed his window to enter the race. People stopped donating money to him, or other Republicans, waiting for him to enter. Now the big story is the HUGE money lead the Democrats have and Fred Thompsons big story is campaigns woes. Even when he does enter, I don’t think he will be able to challenge the top tier for fundraising, Hell, he might be behind Edwards and he’ll be dead in the water.

Personally, I hope he does run as he polls worse against the Democrats than Rudy does. And if it is him, Rudy and McCain, he can win. Hell, Romney could win, it’s just that close.

People forget how brutal the campaign of ‘96 was for the Republicans. Sure, Dole won the nomination, but the whole field was terrible.

I posit that this year’s field is worse. In ‘96, at least the candidates had relevant experience. Rudy G is a front runner, but he was an important mayor for a single day. Republicans have invested all of their hopes in Fred Thompson, a man who has not been in a single debate or made clear a single one of his positions. This tells everything you need to know about how this election is probably going to end.
