The Generals Want More Friedmans

The generals quoted in this NY Times piece are a clear reminder of, while their leadership and advice is certainly worthy, that there’s a reason we have civilian control of our military and foreign policy. To be frank, they sound like the generals who presided over Vietnam - who were convinced that just a few months and years more were required to prevail when the cause had long since been lost.

Continued engagement in Iraq is not good for our military, nor for America’s security. We’ve been at this mess for over four years now and if anything things have devolved in that time.

No war is good for our military, but can you imagine what will happen to our military when we retreat and lose Iraq to the terrorists? Can you imagine what that would do for the morale of the soldiers.

Democrats like to talk about how our military is supposedly broken, but the fact is a premature pullout from Iraq would really break our military, not a low-level insurgency.

If this is a low-level insurgency, I’d had to see a full-blown one.

Welcome to the age of non-accountability if you’re a Republican: No matter what happens, it’s always the Democrats’ fault.
