Borrowed Time

When I see attacks like the one in Glasgow today, I can’t help but to think we’re living on borrowed time here. These acts are not hard to commit, require little to no sophistication and there are more than enough willing terrorists out there. So why the relative silence? I can only guess that Al Qaeda and their sympathizers see more value in a huge attack on the scale of 9/11 than a relatively small one. But we’re on borrowed time and we aren’t remotely ready for it.

This bogus narrative that Bush is keeping us safe is a bunch of nonsense.
America has been attacked by terrorists more times under him than under any other President.
We’ve been attacked every single year he’s been in office!

    OxyCon,

The claim to which you refer is that we have not had any major terror attacks in the continental US since 9/11, which is true. The only “bogus narrative” is your strawman assertion, which is obviously false.

If you would like to discuss major terror attacks in the continental US, Bill Clinton had two major terrorist attacks occur in the contintental US during his tenure as president: the 1993 attempt to blow up the World Trade Center (which fortunately was a failure) and the April 19, 1995 attack on the Murrah Federal Building in Oklahoma City, which killed 169.

Perhaps we should discuss the “bogus narrative” claiming that Bill Clinton kept the US free from terrorism during the 1990s.

But Mikie, the Oaklahoma City terrorist attack was carried out by one of your own right wing terrorists…a Freeper in the making, just like right wing terrorist Eric Rudolf.
    Forget about that?
And since the right likes to count the embassey bombings under President Clinton, then we must also include them under Bush.
    Fair’s fair.

BTW, go to the link I provided:

    http://www.infoplease.com/ipa/A0001454.html

And you will see that there were 5 terrorist attacks Against America and our interests while Prseident Clinton was in office. And that includes right wing terrorist Timothy McVeigh’s attack directed at our government.

So far there have been 9 terrorist attacks during Bush’s 6+ years in office.
But Bush is keeping us safe?
    Cut me a freaking break!

    Mike, you are so right.

Clinton had over a full month between his inauguration on January 20th, 1993 and the World Trade Center bombing on February 23, 1993 to take the fight to the enemy. With the previous administration screaming at the bottom of its lungs about the imminent threat, it’s pretty clear Clinton was asleep at the wheel.

Then Clinton went and had the WTC perps captured, tried, and sentenced to jail for the rest of their natural lives.

That’s right, no illegal invasions, no massive profiteering, no mounting casualties, no destabilization of the Mid East, no Constitutional crisis, no Walter Reed, no Gitmo or Abu Ghraib, no Habeas Corpus…oh wait, scratch that last one.

    What a dick.

Oops, that should be “February 26, 1993″

    What an even BIGGER dick.

I suspect we will see a major terrorist attack shortly after the Democratic National Convention during the summer of 2008.

The current administration couldn’t be helping the terrorists more if they were working for the other side, and Al Qaeda doesn’t want a change at the top.

I have a lot more faith in our guys than yours. Three attacks we could have had this weekend, two of them were stopped before they could start and the other one caused only superficial property damage and no significant injuries.

Nimrod Gently, from what I’ve heard, the car ‘bombs’ would have produced a loud bang, lots of smoke, and no major damage.

Fortunately the terrorists plot wasn’t well thought out.

I’ve heard different. I heard there were nails. It was a nasty one.

“I’ve heard different. I heard there were nails. It was a nasty one.”

They had nails, but it wasn’t an explosive device. Obviously they were planning on the bomb creating a lot of shrapnel and causing a lot of injuries. But they were using an incendiary device and not an explosive one so the nails wouldn’t have been sent anywhere. They probably wouldn’t even gotten out of the car.

Wait, do you mean just the Glasgow one or the London ones too? The London ones might have worked, the Glasgow thing is probably the stupidest terrorist attack ever.

“Wait, do you mean just the Glasgow one or the London ones too?”

    The London ones too.

“The London ones might have worked, the Glasgow thing is probably the stupidest terrorist attack ever.”

The London ones were the same type of ‘bomb’, just with nails.

    Short Bus Terrorism.
