Hollywood actor Fred Thompson casts himself as an “outsider” but is there anything more inside than hobnobbing as a lobbyist in Washington’s power corridors?
As a lobbyist for more than 20 years, billion-dollar corporations paid Thompson for his access to members of Congress and White House staff. During that time he was close to two Senate majority leaders, both from his home state of Tennessee — his political mentor Howard Baker and, more recently, his former colleague Bill Frist.
During Baker’s tenure, Thompson lobbied for a savings-and-loan deregulation bill that helped hasten the industry’s collapse and a failed nuclear energy project that cost taxpayers more than a billion dollars.
More recently, while Frist led the Senate, Thompson earned more than $750,000 lobbying for a British reinsurance company that wanted to limit its liability from asbestos lawsuits.
A Lobbyist, a Hollyweirdo and a Lawyer.
Tsk, tsk.
Those Repubs sure are scraping the dregs from the bottom of the barrel.
The reason the Repubs like Mitt and Freddie so much is because of the phony veneer those two have crafted for themselves. They know they need a fraud to fool the American public into voting for them, as Ann Ghoulter so much as admitted when she heaped her praise on Mitt for “fooling them Libruls”.
It’s also why they chose Bush. He was “the guy everyone wanted to have a beer with”.
Six years later, we know what the country looks like when it is run by the loudmouth drunk from the corner bar.
That’s probably why they like Ghouliani also.
or, in other words, 9% of Hillary’s book advance. Either way, it’s enough to get 1,875 haircuts!
“or, in other words, 9% of Hillary’s book advance. Either way, it’s enough to get 1,875 haircuts!”
It’s amazing that Republicans like you don’t care how Republicans made their money. But if a Democrat is rich, it’s a moral sin.
Smells like hypocrisy to me.
“It’s amazing that Republicans like you don’t care how Republicans made their money. But if a Democrat is rich, it’s a moral sin.

It’s opposite to that…you don’t hear us talking about how they get even more rich and the people they are supposed to represent the poor get poorer.
Back when Clinton was in office we were going poor…then because of his poor economy we ended up losing our house and being homeless.
John Edwards has a house thats over 30,000 sq ft.
And thats just one of his houses.
How can you say you’re for helping the poor and this and that. While you’re getting richer and have all this money.
Thats hypocritical….
Bill Gates…gives his money out left and right. and guess what he votes republican lol.
If John Edwards would quit lecturing me about “Two Americas”, I wouldn’t care how much “his” America spends on haircare.
Jon: “Back when Clinton was in office we were going poor…then because of his poor economy we ended up losing our house and being homeless.”
Clinton had a poor economy? By what metric?
Jon: “How can you say you’re for helping the poor and this and that. While you’re getting richer and have all this money.”
Cause he is helping the poor through his Center on Poverty, Work and Opportunity. You don’t have to give all your money away to help the poor.
Jon: “Bill Gates…gives his money out left and right.”
He has a net worth of $56 billion. I don’t think he’s giving away too much money.
Jon: “and guess what he votes republican”
And then the Republicans scaled back the anti-trust investigations against Microsoft. Amazing.
“If John Edwards would quit lecturing me about ‘Two Americas’, I wouldn’t care how much ‘his’ America spends on haircare.”
I’ve seen no evidence that you would.
With a past like that, what can we expect from Fred as president?
A return to ‘trickle-down economics’?
How bout another Iran-Contra scandal?
Perhaps we should call him Freddy Kreuger instead.
