Fred Thompson & The Felon

Somehow I think Hollywood actor Fred Thompson’s friendship with convicted felon Scooter Libby is gonna be under some scrutiny now that he’s more or less in the field.

Last time I checked, Hillary Clinton is married to a felon. Perjury is a felony for Democrats and Republicans too.

Oliver will just whine about the both of you being a part of the Republican Noise Machine.

Once again, another example of Oliver espousing what he professes to hate when it becomes politically expedient.

It’s as predictable as the sunrise tomorrow morning.

    1. Clinton was never convicted of perjury

    2. His dishonest testimony was in a matter completely unrelated to the execution of his office

    3. Hillary has never called for her husband to be pardoned, as Thompson has for Libby

So you see, my friends, the issue is not just that Thompson is friends with Libby, the issue is that he has spearheaded an effort to defend him and has shown no respect for the jury verdict against him.

Ah, yet another wingnut false equivalence deflated: like swatting flies in a barrel.

That having been said, I doubt this will lose Thompson many votes.

Hollywood Fred is quite the hypocrite isn’t he? How many CIA agents will his administration blow the covers of?

Mike may want to check again. Clinton is not a felon. Other than that, he’s right on the ball. Perjury IS a felony for Dems and Republics alike. So why do Republics want to pardon Libby?

You clearly didn’t check at all, then. Clinton has never been convicted of a felony. He has a cleaner arrest record than both George W. Bush (One arrest, pled guilty) and Dick Cheney (two arrests & convictions).

So I guess it’s “different” because Scooter Libby actually is a felon, and you’re just completely wrong.

I know this continues to be hard for you guys to grasp, but actual things that happened here on planet earth are not exactly the same as things you wish had happened, but didn’t.

7 comments in and no mention of Sandy Berger? Hmmm, must be a “reality-based” website…

    Hey look! It’s a two-headed tree squirrel!

Why, is he friends with Fred Thompson too?

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 Wellstone

Sandy Berger was not convicted of a felony either.

He made a plea-bargain deal and paid his fine.

    Umm, yeah, Farris.

That’s what Reality-based IS based on: FACTS, not opinions, faith, or belief systems.

Scooter Libby’s crime was inconsistent responses to questions about interviews with reporters concerning a non-crime.

Scooter Libby’s crime was perjury. He was found guilty. The shuttle is clear for landing, Houston.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Nimrod Gently

Yeah, but the perjury Scooter Libby was convicted of counts far, far less than the perjury Bill Clinton was acquitted of, because LIBERAL MEDIA HAGHUGLAGHALGHALGHAL

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Hedley

Berger ultimately plead guilty to a misdemeanor, not a felony. However, a guilty plea is the same as a conviction.

No democratic presidential candidate has called for a pardon of Sandy Berger.

These wingnuts are like cockroaches - plug up one hole and they try to scurry through another. Good thing we got the mighty mighty boots of reason to squish em with.

Scooter Libby’s crime was inconsistent responses to questions about interviews with reporters concerning a non-crime.

Outing a covert agent is a crime, Dugger. Fitz didn’t think he could prove intent to commit that crime so he nailed Libby for perjury instead.

    Squish.

Sandy Berger isn’t facing jail time (unfortunately) and has given up his law license “voluntarily.” Thus, no need for a pardon.

The Scooter Libby story is old news. No one cares. Even the jurors who convicted him felt bad for him that he was simply the scapegoat. Please try and make it into a big story.

It’s not us who are playing it, it’s Dugger.

“Outing a covert agent is a crime, Dugger. ‘

    Sure. Who did that?

No Democratic candidate spearheaded his defense fund, and even if he had gone to prison, no democratic candidate would be calling for his pardon.

    swat. squish.

    Webster Hubbell.

    Susan MacDougal.

    Henry Cisneros

Even if it were possible (which it isn’t), no democratic candidate has spearheaded their defense funds or called for their pardon.

swat! squish! eeewwww, that was a particularly slimy one.

hard to imagine anything more pointless than a person who posts on a blog he thinks is pointless.

Scooter Libby’s crime was inconsistent responses to questions about interviews with reporters concerning a non-crime.

    Ooops.

Left out a couple of things. Let me help.

Scooter Libby’s crime was inconsistent responses…including making up stuff that was demonstrably falseto questions… asked by federal law enforcement and in front of a grand jury under oath …about interviews with reporters… no, that’s not quite right…taking positive action to provide information to reporters…that’s better …concerning a…a situation that was later determined to be …a non-crime…because the investigator decided he could not gather enough information to prove motive. The prosecutor successfully convinced a jury of American citizens in a court of law that Mr. Libby’s fabrications hindered the investigation.

You’re so welcome! Any time at all.

    “Sure. Who did that?”

Armitage for sure, evidence suggests there were others in the Bush administration is did so as well.

The laws Libby broke means we might never figure out exactly what happened, which is why they are serious crimes.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Hedley

No Democratic candidate spearheaded his defense fund, and even if he had gone to prison, no democratic candidate would be calling for his pardon.

    And you know this how?

Until he decides to write a book, maybe, oh 2010 or so.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Duros62

    And you know this how?

    Because he’s awake.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Wilbur

    And you know this how?

Because my brain is bigger than that of a cockroach.

Unfortunately, that puts me at an evolutionary disadvantage.
