Jessica Alba, 25, star of the upcoming Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, has been voted the sexiest woman in the world by readers of FHM. The Sin City star, who will celebrate her 26th birthday this weekend (April 28th), tops the list.

Last year’s American Idol runner-up, Katharine McPhee, placed second in her first appearance in the 100 Sexiest poll. Scarlett Johansson, who was No. 1 in 2006, dropped to No. 3 this year.

FHM’s 100 Sexiest Women poll is recognized as the original, and largest, reader-generated listing of the sexiest women in the world. It is voted for entirely by FHM readers worldwide, with approximately eight million votes counted this year from all over the globe.

“Jessica Alba is a stunning California beauty with an exotic allure that is mesmerizing,” says FHM Online Editor-in-Chief Scott Kritz, adding, “there’s nothing sexier than a gorgeous super hero.”

Were truer words ever spoken? NAY.

See, you have the problem that you think beauty and sexiness are the same thing.

That, and you’ve got a wadded up Maxim magazine where your soul ought to be.

    What’s with all the air-brushing?

Being an old fart, I still prefer the great grandmother Sophia Loren.

once again, my question is: does she have a brazilian?

    Air brushing?

Even without make-up. She’s just as fine.

IMO - you are mistaking the adjectives “Hot” and “beautiful”. There are certainly a lot of overlap - but they aren’t necessarily the same thing.

There is no doubt that Jessica Alba is “hotter” than Drew Barrymore.

“Hotness” (or as another commentor pointed out “sexiness”) is truly objectifying these actresses. I personally don’t think this is necessarily “wrong” - as it would be - say objectfying a woman you work with - since they are clearly aprticipating in an industry that trades on it.

But that is essentially the point here. “Beauty” is certainly more than skin-deep. I don’t really spend enough time following popular culture to know if Drew is really more of a “beautiful” person than Jessica - but she has an advantage of being older.

Part of beauty is that it is ageless. Truly actresses like Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, Candace Bergen, and the queen of “older actreesses” Sophia Loren had beauty that lasted while they aged.

But consider someone like, say Catherine Bach. She was super-hot as Daisy Duke - but she didn’t age well.

To truly be the “most beautiful” - you need time to prove that your beauty doesn’t require having a tight young body…

I agree there are differences betweem hot, beautiful, sexy, etc. But these differences are subjective and personal.

I feel these are a combintation of physical appearance, intelligence, emotional appeal and the intangibles.

The first two are easy to explain, emotional appeal basically means are they nice, do they have a sense of humor, etc. Intangibles are stuff like, do they like hockey, do they like some of my more geeky hobbies, etc.

With Jessica Alba she has the physical attractiveness and the emotional appeal, but I don’t have enough information to judge the other two.
