In the entire, dark, black history of Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor, this is probably the craziest clip ever. A young girl was tragically killed by a drunk driver. But this was not enough for O’Reilly. Instead, because the criminal was an illegal alien he added this incident to his ongoing crusade against the brown people. Luckily Geraldo was on the show and he - to his credit - called out O’Reilly’s xenophobia for exactly what it was. This drove Bill O’Reilly insane. I was almost certain he was going to reach across the table and hit Geraldo.
This is the leading face of cable news, right wing media, of the conservative voice in the media, and he’s a freaking psycho. The kicker, O’Reilly concludes his tirade by saying “this is reason”. Well, I guess that’s what passes for it in today’s MSM.

Morning Call (1/5/03) had O’Reilly using the same racist term in a speech earlier in the year: “O’Reilly criticized the Immigration and Naturalization Service for not doing its job and not keeping out ‘the wetbacks.’” O’Reilly denied making the comment (Washington Post, 2/17/02), but the reporter stands by his account.

The whole point of immigration is that we only want people who meet criteria that we set–like no criminal record. The man in question had apparently been convicted of drunk driving before in the Virigina city, then he walked free, but he was not deported. Drunk driving is a major public health danger in the USA and is entirely avoidable. It should get any legal alien deported, even more so for an illegal alien.
In this case, though, this man wasn’t deported. He kept living in the Virgina city because the city’s mayor declared the city a “safe zone” for illegal aliens. The primary duty of any public official is upholding the law. The purpose of that duty is to protect the safety of the citizens.
The mayor protected illegal aliens with the “safe zone.” Thus, this illegal alien was free to drive drunk again. The illegal alien drove drunk again. Consequently, innocent people were killed.
If drunk driving does not result in deportation of even illegal aliens, then we don’t have America. Instead we have a United States by, for, and of everyone in the world except the people of the United States.

I would say that most of the illegals in this country are her working peacefully for buisnesses that have used those low wage jobs in their buiosness models. If they had to train and pay the taxes of regular citizens, their current buisness model would collapse. Most of the government action on this issue is intended to keep the status quo.
Anyone who thinks local sheriffs and police should be involved in deporting illegal aliens is basically arguing that they support, for example, allowing rapists to get away with their crimes as long as they rape illegal aliens. That’s hogwash! There is no such thing as “a focus” on drunk driving. The drunk who was doing the driving should not have been in this country.
If he is deported, they can do whatever they do to drunk drivers in his country.
Until the immigration laws in this country are changed, illegal immigrants are just that — illegal. I don’t care if they were lured here, or just accidentally strolled across the Rio Grande. They should be deported, at least. Any illegal alien that is found guilty of a crime should be deported, and not allowed a visa here for x amount of years, depending on the nature of the crime. If he is caught here again during that “no visa” time, he should be immediately transported to his home country, and never permitted to return.
If you want all the immigration laws repealed, do it the way liberals have always done it — go to the Supreme Court and have them declared unconstitutional.

Driving while under the influence of alcohol, drugs (both illegal and prescription) is a tragedy waiting to happen. According to Wrap.org (http://www.wrap.org/strikeforce/06checkpoint_va_factsheet.pdf), there were 322 persons killed in DUI related incidents in the Commonwealth of Virginia in 2005. Not one of those incidents was brought to the attention of the viewers of Mr. O’Reilly on his Fox News program.
It should also be pointed out that it is not the responsibility of State and local governments to enforce immigration law. It is the sole responsibility of the Federal government, as mentioned in the U.S. Constitution. Why didn’t Mr. O’Reilly chastise the President for not deporting this person on his first DUI conviction? Why didn’t Mr. O’Reilly go after ICE for not doing their job?
One very simple answer: It is easier to make cheap political points by attacking local officials who have no power under the U.S. Constitution to enforce immigration law, than it is to attack the Federal government for not doing their job.
This case isn’t about illegal immigration. This case is about a guy who got drunk, drove and killed. Period.

Two disclaimers: 1) Bill’s on the wrong side of the argument, and 2) these kinds of emotional displays make me uncomfortable. But my question is this: suppose Rosie O’Donnell, as an example, adopted Bill’s shout-down style (as she often does). Would there be a post here saying that she’d lost her damn mind? No. If one agrees with the tirader, they’re passionate. If you disagree with them, they’re nuts. Doesn’t that about sum it up?
The way the 2 looked at each other after the shouting was over, with a silly grin, made me wonder if the whole thing wasn’t staged to begin with.
Perhaps BO is simply borrowing a page from Rosie’s “10 Ways To Better Ratings” playbook?

“Desperate”? Uh, sorry, but a little news flash for you. Currently of the TOP 15 rated cable news broadcasts, Fox News holds 14 of those slots and the ONLY show from any other network that even managed to break into the top 15 was Larry King, and even he could only muster coming in at Number 8 or so, still not even cracking the top 5. So out of the top 15 rated news shows, Fox holds 14…CNN managed one… and MSNBC laughably has NONE.
Oh yeah, and the winner at Number One? Yes, you got it, O’Reilly — far and away the winner by a very substantial margin. But, hey, saying O’Reilly’s “desperate for viewers” is par for the course from those on the Left who like to convince themselves of the alternate reality they live in. I’m sure if I check back tomorrow you’ll equally be deluding yourselves by saying “Boy, Rosie is really looking slim these days!”

As to the actual debate at hand…
You have to be KIDDING ME if you are actually siding with Geraldo’s crack induced viewpoint. This is basically his — and all open border proponents — truly laughable logic…
IF an illegal immigrant with a REPEATED CRIMINAL RECORD for abusing alcohol gets drunk yet AGAIN and then goes out and kills 2 innocent teenage girls with his car, it’s NOT about his illegal immigration status…it’s NOT about the fact that he shouldn’t have even been here in the first place…no, no, it’s ONLY about “drunk driving.”
Similarly, IF an illegal immigrant with a record for stealing gets caught redhanded robbing your house, it’s NOT about illegal immigration…it’s ONLY about “breaking and entering.” And IF an illegal immigrant with a violent past happens to sexually assault a woman or even kill someone — yep, you got it, it’s NOT about illegal immigration…it’s ONLY about “rape” or “murder.”
So basically it’s ALWAYS about the incident, yet magically NEVER about their illegal immigration status. Boy, rather convenient the way that works out, no?
Then again, the absolutely INSANE logic of the Open Border proponents is evidenced by those who are actually arguing — in a truly jaw dropping way — that if this illegal hadn’t killed these 2 poor girls that night, it WOULD have been someone else. Yep! Illegal immigration literally has NOTHING to do with this. That’s because to these deluded souls, this is all about “fate” because those 2 girls were PREDESTINED to get killed that night. After all, to the illegal immigrant apologist, if it hadn’t been Ramos killing them, it absolutely, positively would have been someone else! (Insert mocking Rodney Dangerfield eyeroll here)
Of course, the utter flip flopping HYPOCRISY of all this is that if a Hispanic/Latin American high school girl was class valedictorian but was also revealed to be an illegal immigrant, oh sure, THEN it’s not about “education”. No, no, then somehow it IS a story about illegal immigration, but only about how much illegals “contribute” to our society and how we should all accept them with open arms, no questions asked.
You know, I love when open border people spin. If you guys spun any harder in place, one thing’s for sure — we’d immediately solve the energy crisis because you’d all be striking oil pretty darn quick.
Gad, but I hate the “brown people” argument.
This is America. We are a melting pot by nature. Human beings of all races and ethnicities are to be regarded as equal. Our human nature has not always allowed this, but in the entire history of the globe, legally and politically speaking, there has been no society so encouraging and supportive of diversity.
That also means that everyone has — should have and must have — equal responsibility before the law. Whether the drunk driver who killed this little girl was “brown,” yellow, or white is immaterial. He killed her, it was wrong, and it is best for him and for our culture that he pay the consequences. See Martin Luther King: We should judge people not on the color of their skin, but on the content of their character.
(He was “brown,” was he not? More to the point, he was a humanist of rare insight.)
Mr. Rivera, and many of the posters here, are taking the position that this driver’s legal status should be disregarded. Postmodern nonsense. If he were a white person in the country illegally, and committed a crime, he should be deported immediately because he broke two laws. Same goes if he were black, Asian or any manner of Muslim. We are a nation of laws. We honor and respect one another, and enhance freedom and happiness generally, when we hold everyone to a standard of safe, responsible and legal behavior.
This “brown people” stuff is maudlin pandering. No one is better or worse, or should be regarded as special, due to his or her epidermal hue. To each according to his or her actions.
Whatever you think of O’Reilly, he’s right on this. Mourn the little girl, deport the man, and please ensure when possible that the people in the United States have not jumped the line, cheated, or broken our laws to get here.
Wow! Bill O’reilly tries to conflate one drunk driving immigrant with all illegal immigrants. I guess all those other drunk driving deaths in the state of Virginia aren’t important because they weren’t killed by someone south of the border, right?
Then after he’s called on being a racist BillO tries to blame the mayor for not deporting this man. Eventhough we know that Immigration is the responsibility of the federal gov’t.

Both of these guys are idiots. This Mexican guy was wrong on three counts: He was in this country illegally, he drove while intoxicated (not once, but twice), and he committed vehicular homicide the second time around. This guy should be deported after he serves his jail term, end of story. Should he have been deported after his first DUI conviction? Yes. For being here illegally…and for committing a crime here.
Is it an issue in the present case? Absolutely. If local law enforcement had communicated with the federal government, this guy would have been deported, and this tragedy may not have occurred.
Oh please! BillO doesn’t care one iota about these young women who were killed. He’s using this tragedy as a way to attack immigration.
Let’s be clear, there are 12 million undocumented workers in the USA. They didn’t just pop up over night, ok? Attacking illegal immigration in the manner in which BillO does is a new, “headfake” designed to distract people from real issues like Iraq, Iran, etc. just like gay marriage did in 2004.

These two guys are cartoons. They exist in a medium that thrives on style over substance and any arguments they make have that as an overriding principle.
I would hazard a guess that there are facts relevant to this case that they won’t address because it’s not good TV. Grey doesn’t look good in high-def — extreme colors do.
I feel awful for the families of the deceased because they’re faced with seeing this turned into a circus in addition to the pain of their loss. My sympathies go out to them for all reasons I mentioned.
I wonder what O’reilly would have said if the girl who was killed was an illegal alien, too. He probably would have thought it a gift from God.

Bill may be an idiot at times as I don’t always agree with his position nor that he is as informed as he portrays. BUT, he’s right on this one. Yes it’s a drunk driving issue but the fact that this guy is a repeat offender and shouldn’t been here in the first place, especially after he broke the law is ridiculous. If he was allowed to stay here illegally, he should’ve definitely been deported after his second violation of the law (the first violation was him coming here in the first place).
