Actually, GP, the original story that the Washington Times bowdlerized said that Edwards did no significant pro bono work; the WT left out the “significant.” Gee, they lied. Just like every other Republican mouthpiece rag or blog.

    WT left out the “significant.”

Actually, the word was “notable” from the NYT. However, no one has noted ANY pro bono work for Edwards. Perhaps you could point to some before claiming the WT was lying?

“Actually, the word was “notable” from the NYT. However, no one has noted ANY pro bono work for Edwards.”

Oh my. I guess trial lawyers who work for contigency never do any work for free when cases didn’t win. I’m certain that happened to him a few times early in his career.

What about other venues of public service, such as the Wade Edwards Learning Lab? How about raising money for “College for Everyone” in the poorest county in NC? How about Opportunity Rocks in which 700 students were given a place to sleep, shower, and meals, while they helped removed debris from the area that the friggin’ gov’t contractors should have helped doing, but didn’t?

How about giving all pols he campaigned for a break in that he raised money for them and not himself.

No pro-bono, my donkey. And I’m proud of that man. He’s doing far more than the one in the WH who flew over NOLA, strummed a guitar with a dude, and raised money for McCain’s birthday instead of helping the folks of NOLA. Good job, Brownie.

That’s not what “pro bono” means. The NC Bar asks its members to do pro bono work ever year, as well, so working on contingency “early in his career” doesn’t matter.

What about other venues of public service

They are important. Can you list anything before the mid-90’s? He became a lawyer 20 years before that.

    friggin’ gov’t contractors

Exactly. So why do you think the government will do any better managing President Edwards anti-poverty programs or health care?

Face it. Edwards is an opportunistic politician just like the rest of them. He didn’t help the poor with pro bono cases (as requested by the bar association), but now he’s all excited about talking about poverty if it will help get him elected.

OMG POLITICIAN IS OPPORTUNISTIC SHOCK STOP THE PRESSES

It’s a cryin’ shame intelligent men must pander to the lowest common denominator in order to win the vote.

Edwards learned plenty in ‘04 and he has a ripping chance of going all the way. Class Act.

    ” riggin’ gov’t contractors

You bet. Those subcontractors were hired by “no-bid” contractors which were pals of Bush and Cheney.

I didn’t hear that the government was going to be the rescue team on poverty necessarily. I heard that the government didn’t do its job, so others took action and responsibility.

Really? Please name the contractors who were hired to clean St. Bernard’s Parish where Edwards’ college pals were working.

The no-bids you are talking about were for housing, not debris removal.

You might be interested in the facts:

Interim Review of St. Bernard Parish
    (GC-LA-06-54, September 27, 2006)
The Parish received more than $31 million in expedited funding related to Katrina, along with other FEMA funding, to address debris removal and infrastructure challenges. Auditors determined that Parish management did not allocate costs properly or document cost eligibility. The Parish also did not comply with federal contracting procedures or maintain accountability for capital asset purchases.
Auditors recommended that FEMA, in coordination with the state and the Parish, ensures that the Parish established an accounting system to reconcile the final claims for specific projects, including only those costs properly allocable and eligible for those projects. Auditors also recommended that contracts be amended to ensure compliance with federal requirements.

    Oh, wait…I know…

The eeeeevil Bush/Cheney cabal even have their tentacles in a tight grasp around the local NO governments. We all know that NO was known for clean and efficient government before Bush was in office, right?

College students who came for Opportunity Rocks are not pals of Edwards; they were inspired volunteers. College students gave mostly their time when they could have been doing something else. If you can prove most of them gave big bucks to JRE, I challenge you to do so.

“Pals” to me means special interests in which Bush and Cheney owed because of campaign contributions.

Huh? Where did I say anything about money? “Pals” means friends. Nothing more.

All I said was that you’re comment about Bush’s friends screwing up debris cleanup so that college students had to do it is not based on any actual facts (so I supplied the actual facts).

How about providing some evidence about which Bush supporters got no-bid contracts to clean up St. Bernard Parish?

Yeah, like that will ever happen…
