Deafening Silence

The campaign for conservatives to tell the truth about what they truly believe marches on. Congressman Virgil Goode stands by his anti-Muslim tirade and not a darn word of condemnation from the GOP.

And really, why should they? Goode just said what so many of them believe in their hearts. At least he was honest.

(Of course in the Land Of Double Standards that is conservatism, those Muslims better condemn stuff… or elese…)

UPDATE: Perennial idiot Dan Riehl argues the wonderful concept also known as “those effing muslims, you never know”.

Refresh my memory: When have a gang of Democrats stepped up to the microphones to criticize a fellow Democrat for a bit of political incorrectness?

Or is that because Democrats never do anything wrong?

  2. Gravatar Icon 2 Michael

Rep. Goode was not being politically incorrect; he was promoting bigotry. But as you’ve amply demonstrated, fd, you think bigotry by Republicans is just fine.

Remember, if you a racist, a bigot, or just plain evil, you belong in the Republican Party.

Its great, Ollie, that you are able to know whats in our hearts. Its an ability most all of us don’t possess. Congratulations on your super power (BTW, Is Aquaman really a dork?)

Also, BTW, since you uhh know what I’m thinking, I also admire that woman’s charming personality.

DL, the difference of course was that the honorable Mr. Goode stands by his position while Sen. Kerry had to spend the next week first explaining what he “meant” by his poorly worded joke and then apologize.

Dugger, I am not sure from where your post comes. OW is effectively showing that it is no longer necessary to wonder about the nature of Republican feelings, for they are openly voicing their unfettered bigotry.

The question for you as a Republican is to decide whether you will support the likes of Tancredo and Goode or whether you get so disgusted that you leave the party. Your answer will say a lot about you and your values.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 JWG

or whether you get so disgusted that you leave the party. Your answer will say a lot about you and your values.

    This works both ways, right?

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 scott_api

Why would Duger need to leave the party? As I see it, Democrats asked that Kerry apologize. All Dugger needs to do to prove he doesn’t suport bigotry is to ask Goode apologize. After all, we don’t want to promote a double-standard.

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 JWG

    we don’t want to promote a double-standard

Oliver admits that he does. Where have you been?

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 Nimrod Gently

No no no no no it’s not bigotry because he said he FEARS the very idea of Muslims entering America, not that he HATES it and that is an important distinction okay I AM RIGHT WHY ARE YOU LIBERALS SO FILLED WITH HATE

    zadura,

Merry Christmas and Please. Ollie just stated what was in our hearts. That only ‘effectively shows’ he has super powers or he’s been at the Christmas punch a little early.

scott, Merry Christmas and you are wrong. Since you personalized it, you are wrong. I did not ask Kerry to apologize. Why should I. I believe it reflects his true beliefs. Likewise I don’t ask Goode to apologize. Can you document where you asked Kerry to apologize or do we have the ol’ pot/kettle dichotomy here?

    Dugger

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 z

Dugger, it does indeed work both ways. I gave up on the Republicans in 1994. I am now a registered Independent.

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 fd10801

A few Democrats joined in the protest against Jon Kerry’s insult to our Armed Forces?

Two stories about the same incident?

Only a liberal could shoot at fish in a barrel, and miss so many.

Perhaps your sympathy is with the beleaguered fish?

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 scott_api

    Dugger-

I was trying to defend you, not personalize it. My point was that Kerry made comments insulting to the US armed forces. No Democrat needed to leave the party to prove they didn’t agree with him, they just called on him to apologize. Z Adura implied that your choices were to agree with Goode or leave the GOP. My point (which I made poorly, I admit) is that if you disagree with Goode (I don’t know if you do or don’t) you don’t need to leave the GOP.

Sorry for the confusion. And Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you.

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Louis

    fd and Dugger –

By all means, please keep up this tiresome spinning, evasion and denial. Please keep emboldening Rep. Goode and the rest of the human filth that is strangling your party. It’ll just make it that much sweeter in 2008 when the Dems run the table on you guys again, and Goode will join that other Virginia redneck — former Senator Macaca — in a disgraceful early retirement.

As long as there are Democratic automatons trying to convince the American public that the Republicans are the Party of racism and bigotry and that the Reps are attempting to “force religion down the throats” of Americans, the Democratic Party will never put their candidate in the White House, even with the MSM on your side.

It is monotonous, in every sense of the word.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Nimrod Gently

See, when you say things like “even with the MSM on [the Democrats’] side”, you pretty much illustrate that you’re not worth talking to.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 fd10801

Sorry, I forgot that liberal media bias doesn’t exist. Like the war on Christmas.

How quick some are to demand that Muslims swear some special allegiance to the country that they don’t demand of, say, Protestant Christians.

Nobody asks Christians to forswear Jerry Falwell’s post-9/11 remarks about how “the bitch, er, country had it coming” due to our collective failure to ruin gay people’s lives more thoroughly. Or the conduct of Timothy McVeigh, a Chriatian and a mass murderer. The torturers at Abu Ghraib were overwhelmingly Christian, many from overwhelmingly evangelical Christian parts of the country like West Virginia; what Christian candidates for public office have had to swear they don’t hook people up to electrodes for shits and giggles?

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 JWG

Nobody asks Christians to forswear Jerry Falwell’s post-9/11 remarks

There were constant calls to repudiate his comments (though most people critisized them without being asked).

    the conduct of Timothy McVeigh

His attack was condemned by everyone. You should note that he did not carry out his attack in the name of Christ, however.

The torturers at Abu Ghraib were overwhelmingly Christian

Did they claim their conduct was in the name of Christ, or did they shout out anything glorifying Christ?

what Christian candidates for public office have had to swear they don’t hook people up to electrodes for shits and giggles

Which Muslim candidates are being asked to swear they don’t torture people?

Maybe you can rethink your point and come back later.

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 fd10801

JWG: In order to rethink your point, you have to think it first.

I think the saddest part of this story is that the winger noise machine has egged on the rise of bigotry and making people think it is good to hate someone based on skin, religion, ect.
We have slid so far back over the past 10 years.
When it swings back to sanity - and I think it is starting to - people will not want to be associated with the gop because the brush of prejudice will be broad.

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 fd10801

    vwcat: Keep dreamin’

You know how liberals insist there is no left wing media bias, and no war on Christmas?

Well, the GOP is not the “Party of Hate.”

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Nimrod Gently

So your point is that we tell the truth and that’s bad somehow?

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 fd10801

N G :: My point is that if you insist on the truth of nonexistent Republican hatred and bigotry, we will insist on the truth of the purportedly nonexistent “War on Christmas” and “Liberal Media Bias”. I’ll even throw in the “American Theocracy” myth.

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 Nimrod Gently

There are plenty of examples of Republican hatred and bigotry. Do the names Trent Lott, George Allen, Strom Thurmond and Don Nickles ring any bells? Sue Myrick? Howard Coble? John Ashcroft praising Southern Paritsan? To be sure, there’s examples of bigotry from the Democrats as well, but not nearly as many. Given the evidence at hand, it’s perfectly reasonable to say that, if the GOP is not the party of bigots per se, then bigots will at least feel perfectly at home there.

There is also plenty of evidence that the War on Christmas is complete bollocks. So much, in fact, that anyone who claims that it’s real might as well stick a sign around their neck saying “I’m a partisan hack to the extent that said status defines me in all that I do, and to admit that the set of voices espousing views which I vaguely consider ‘my side’ are flawed in any way causes me genuine physical and spiritual pain”.

It would have to be a big sign.

Same goes for your fake “Liberal Media Bias”. Especially since, if the US media is biased at all, it’s in your favour, not ours, you big mewling baby. Read Media Matters some time. Oh, wait, you can’t, because it is TEH LIBRUL WEBSITES and you’re hardwired into hating every phoneme on it, whether you can find a rational reason to do so or not.

The extremist rite wing fanatics tend to look at the world the same way. It is not surprising that they will not condenm Mr Virgil’s remark about muslims, - the rep from Virginia. They are full of bigotry and hatred for people who do not share their crazy ideas. They are hell bent on destroying our country more than the terrorists could ever do. God help us.
