Religious Far Right Is Lost

The religious far right now realizes that they don’t have a bunch of puppets in congress any more, and that America is leaving them behind.

About 70 million Americans call themselves evangelical Christians, and for many of them, the election was a disaster: Democrats took control of Congress, while their political allies, the Republicans, went down in flames.

An initiative to restrict abortion was defeated in South Dakota. A measure to promote stem cell research was approved in Missouri and an amendment to ban gay marriage was defeated in Arizona.

Just days before the election, the shocking revelation was made that evangelical leader Ted Haggard had consorted with a male prostitute.

The greatest thing that I think will come out of the new Democratic Congress is finally addressing things of importance to the American people, and not the latest nutty cause dreamed up by Randall Terry, James Dobson and Co.

So much for the vote of the delusional in America. Now, maybe there’s a chance to get Congress to allow a prayer to Thoth during high school football games.

I wonder how much we’ll hear now from them that the Rethugs in government only pay lip-service to the demands of the Religious Right, something that is true — Karl and the Gang know they’re dealing with a bunch of rubes.

Christianity’s long slow death began in the 18th Century. Only whackos still endores it. Herr Rove was right about them all being rubes.
