William Jefferson: My Two Cents

The man is a stain on the House. He must be beaten. Support Karen Carter in the Louisiana runoff for the House.

Speaking of stains, I assume you’ll be opposing the expected selection of Alcee Hastings (D-FL), convicted by the Senate for bribery and removed from his position as a U.S. District Court Judge, as Chaiman of the House Intelligence Committee?

It’s OK with me if he turns out to be the one Democratic incumbent to be defeated in 2006.

No problem rat, we’ll get right on that when you condemn Bush’s appointment of someone who covered up Iran-Contra to be our defense secretary.

Isn’t Casey the guy who armed and trained bin Laden as well?

“Isn’t Casey the guy who armed and trained bin Laden as well?

No. And people should stop with the “U.S. Armed and trained Bin-laden” canard altogether.

At best, Bin-laden may have gotten a pittance of CIA 2nd hand money via the Mujahadeen during the Soviet / Afghan war. Bin laden was already wealthy and there is no record of him ever receiving any U.S. training, even by proxy.
Bin-laden was an active paricipant alongside a CIA backed force mean to drive out the Russians. He was not a stooge like lets say, Somoza or Mobutu.

If you implicate Casey with something, try Iran Contra. There’s plenty there that will stick.

All I will say about Hastings is that he is Pelosi’s first test.

If she makes Harman the head of the Intelligence Committee instead of Hastings, that will go a long way towards convincing me she’s serious about dealing with corruption in government.

Factcheck- What was that about the high ground and the “Culture of Corruption?” Oh yeah. Just a talking point.
