Obama ‘08: The Time Cover

Now this is a heck of the thing, though one should be aware that the story is written by Joe Klein, who has made a name for himself as a liberal-leaning writer who hates Democrats and wants politicians to tailor their campaigns to him personally.

I don’t think I’ve ever read a better description of Klein. Sorry if this double posts, we just lost power for about half a minute.

The farking media need to STOP with the Obama ‘08 thing. Even if he was ready, which I don’t think is the case, they are damning his chances by shoving him out in front first. Now, if part of the dem strategy is to present a human sacrifice to shield from scrutiny the people who might actually run, then this is the way to go. But if they care about the guy’s political future at all, they should back off.

Besides, I am rather enjoying having him as my senator and I don’t want to see him stuck with someone else’s mess to clean up quite so soon.

Great to see, even if he didnt’ mention the fledgling online Draft Obama movement. But, since we just did a (very) soft launch on Friday not unexpected. So far, though, over 40 people have signed up and offerend to help, and that’s with virtually no publicity. I’m hoping that it can continue to grow.

It’s funny how non-racist ODub seems to like Obama but despises Steele and Ford Jr.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 Ian

By the way: Obama in ‘08? No. Obama in ‘12? Perhaps.

Sorry, he hasn’t made himself into a national figure.

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 Sundown

    Ian,

Why should we view people primarily by their race?

  7. Gravatar Icon 7 Nimrod Gently

All those three are black, Ian, so what’s your point? Also I seem to remember Oliver posting in support of Ford once or twice, although I might be confusing him with some other blog.

  8. Gravatar Icon 8 Oliver Willis

Ian again just makes shit up.

  9. Gravatar Icon 9 Oliver Willis

And I love that Sen. Obama isn’ a national figure despite having a national bestseller (and soon to be a second), the cover of Time, Oprah, etc. Sen. Obama’s even been on Fox News!

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 Ian

Out of the following groups, who do you think is more of a national figure?

    (1) McCain or Obama?

    (2) H. Clinton or Obama?

    (3) Giuliani or Obama?

    (4) Romeny or Obama?

    (5) Kerry or Obama?

Ohhhhh, a national bestselling author! I wonder how many people who bought it actually read it.

Point being, I don’t know him.

BTW: Oliver, if you stopped changing blogging platforms perhaps we will actually be able to see such posts as:

“Harold Ford Jr. kinda lost me with the Hillaryesque pro-war bit.”

BTW, don’t let ODub fool you, most of those links/excerpts show the same post just in seperate categories because he has so many.

  11. Gravatar Icon 11 Ian

Sundown, good question. Oliver, answer it.

Nimrod Gently, I rarely see Ford Jr. posts. He doesn’t even get a category!

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 Sundown

I wasn’t asking Oliver. I was asking YOU, Ian.

You were the one who brought up Steele and Ford. So you must justify your words.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 Oliver Willis

You went from saying I was against Ford to saying I don’t blog about him enough to satisfy you. God, you are so full of it.

I may not agree with Rep. Ford on quite a few issues, just like with Sen. Clinton, I completely and strongly support them being in the Senate because even a Dem who’s to the right of me on a couple issues still supports the wider Democratic platform I stand for - and they would both beat the tar out of a Republican alternative.

Obama is a national figure, just because you don’t see him every day in your little conservative cocoon, doesn’t mean a thing.

I’ve never said we should pick people based on race - that’s a Republican thing, where any thing brown gives them the heebie jeebies.

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Ian

“You went from saying I was against Ford to saying I don’t blog about him enough to satisfy you. God, you are so full of it.”

Oliver, you made it look like you were for Ford in your response. I was saying, if you are so for him, why don’t you blog about him a lot of even give him a category? God, which you don’t believe in, you are so full of it.

“Obama is a national figure, just because you don’t see him every day in your little conservative cocoon, doesn’t mean a thing.”

Oliver, define conservative, because I surely don’t meet all the standards.

“I’ve never said we should pick people based on race - that’s a Republican thing, where any thing brown gives them the heebie jeebies.”

    Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.

You go from saying (all the time) I don’t like people of color and then you say Republicans, of which you assume I am one, pick them up based on need. God, you are so full of it.

    Hypocrisy, much?

  15. Gravatar Icon 15 Ian

Sundown, I don’t. Color doesn’t matter, competence does. In Steele’s case, the opposite is what Odub thinks.

  16. Gravatar Icon 16 Oliver Willis

    Once again you lie.

I support Ford, but he’s kicking his opponent’s ass and I’m not in Tennessee so I don’t write about that race much.

You say I don’t believe in God. You don’t know what the hell I believe in. I certainly have never said in my entire life that I don’t believe in God, so you’re once again - lying.

Conservative - you, Malkin, George Bush, I think you know the type.

Republicans have a clear rhetorical and legislative history of being against minorities. They’re better than they used to be but have a world of work to do.

Ian, I’m seriously asking, why do you lie so much? You make these assertions about people (like before when you said Keith Olbermann pays off liberal bloggers) and then you have to keep backpedaling from your initial charge because its so full of crap.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Muzza

    Ian,

If competence is what you value I take it that you’ve been opposed to GWB since the get-go.

By 2008 Obama will have accomplished more, by the force of his own abilities, than Bush had prior to 2000. Granted, Bush is the last yardstick we should use to measure a canidate’s qualifications, but the Repubican powers deemed him worthy of christening. Anyone who accepted Bush has no standing in questioning Obama readiness.

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 Muzza

    Make that Obama’s.

On a related note, George Will (on today’s This Week) commented that he came away from a lunchtime meeting with Obama feeling like a baseball scout watching A-Rod in high school. First Bobo with the Tiger reference, and now Will comparing him to A-Rod. What’s next, O’Reilly calling him the next Sidney Crosby? (Actually, that wouldn’t fit their model.)

  19. Gravatar Icon 19 Ian

    “Once again you lie.”

    How?

“You say I don’t believe in God. You don’t know what the hell I believe in. I certainly have never said in my entire life that I don’t believe in God, so you’re once again - lying.”

Just like you call me a conservative, you don’t what the hell I believe in.

“Republicans have a clear rhetorical and legislative history of being against minorities. They’re better than they used to be but have a world of work to do.”

Yes, just like Grand Wizard Robert “white nigger” Byrd. Right, Oliver?

“Conservative - you, Malkin, George Bush, I think you know the type.”

Oliver, I’m tired of your blanket crap. What is a conservative and how am I one? I am looking forward to your explanation, thanks.

“Ian, I’m seriously asking, why do you lie so much? You make these assertions about people (like before when you said Keith Olbermann pays off liberal bloggers) and then you have to keep backpedaling [sic] from your initial charge because its so full of crap.”

I don’t back pedal. I am just responding, right?

    Muzza,

“If competence is what you value I take it that you’ve been opposed to GWB since the get-go.”

Will you stop bringing up GWB. I am no big fan of the man at the moment. If the Election were held today, I’d probably write in someone.

  20. Gravatar Icon 20 Oliver Willis

You’re a conservative - you support Bush, the Republican party, cutting taxes for the rich, privatizing social security, going to war in Iraq, etc. Why are you so ashamed of that?

Robert Byrd was in the Klan, he renounced it and now is a strong supporter of civil rights legislation. Republicans and conservatives fought against the civil rights act, desegregation, and continue to fight against renewing the voting rights act, any sort of affirmative action, and wanted to screw over New Oreleans.

And of course, you’ve completely run away from your intial Harold Ford accusation. As usual. Stop just making stuff up. That works on your conservative blogs where there’s just an a-men chorus, but not out here in the real world.

  21. Gravatar Icon 21 Ian

“You’re a conservative - you support Bush, the Republican party, cutting taxes for the rich, privatizing social security, going to war in Iraq, etc. Why are you so ashamed of that?”

    Ashamed?

For a while I have not supported President Bush nor the Republican party. In fact, I am really considering changing my registration to Independent. However, Maryland, like a lot of other states does not allow Independents to vote in the primaries. (They should by the way). IF you mean supporting tax cuts for me, who just paid a rather large sum, then yes. I don’t know much about the privatizing social security movement because your liberal friends in your party and media wouldn’t allow Bush to explain it well. Yes, i support the war in iraq, i do not enjoy have terrorists over here.

But anyways, you obviously don’t know what a conservative is.

  22. Gravatar Icon 22 Southern Quaker

    OMG ROFLOL!!

Because the _Media_ won’t let Bush explain privitizing social security well??? Like he has ever explained anything “well” in his entire political career.

  23. Gravatar Icon 23 frameone

    “I don’t know much …”

Ian says doesn’t know much about Obama and he doesn’t know much about Social Security privatization.

He explains his ignorance of Obama as being Obama’s fault: “Sorry, he hasn’t made himself into a national figure.”

Naturally, however, his ignorance of Bush’s Social Security plan is the fault of the Dems and the media: “I don’t know much about the privatizing social security movement because your liberal friends in your party and media wouldn’t allow Bush to explain it well.”

    Hilarious.

  24. Gravatar Icon 24 Southern Quaker

Ian: “Yest, i support the war in iraq, i do not enjoy having terrorists over here.”

Do you enjoy having our young men and women (not to mention countless Iraqis) die over there in a mess we’ve created?

Do you enjoy creating more terrorists for us (and our children, and our children’s children) to deal with?

  25. Gravatar Icon 25 Nimrod Gently

As long as he’s not one of those men, and as long as those terrorists never attack him personally, yes, yes he does.

  26. Gravatar Icon 26 Nimrod Gently

And he never did explain what his point was. You do realise, don’t you Ian, that the large dusky character in the corner of the screen is Oliver himself?

  27. Gravatar Icon 27 Oliver Willis

The media and the Democrats are somehow preventing the president from talking???

    LOL
    LOL
    L
    M
    A
    O

  28. Gravatar Icon 28 Ian

Oh right, sorry, forgot the media is not biased.

BTW, I didn’t know conservatives DID NOT exist prior to GWB and the war in Iraq.

    Who would have thunk it.

Me thinks ignorant Oliver has no clue what a REAL conservative is. .

  29. Gravatar Icon 29 Ian

BTW .. waiting for your response to the Olbermann thread ..

  30. Gravatar Icon 30 frameone

“Oh right, sorry, forgot the media is not biased.”

Jesus, Ian, could you, at the very least, take some personal responsibility for your own ignorance? For godsake’s man Bush is the god damn president, he has a website:
    http://www.whitehouse.gov/infocus/social-security/

    What a fucking idiot.

  31. Gravatar Icon 31 Nimrod Gently

Wow, I think Ian’s a Dadaist genius. He should move to Paris.

  32. Gravatar Icon 32 Zappa

Is Ian the new Frank? Been gone for a while and am just curious.

  33. Gravatar Icon 33 Nimrod Gently

    I don’t think he’ll catch on.

  34. Gravatar Icon 34 johnnyprogressive

was wondering the same thing zappa. another conservative who feels its necessary to apparently spend most of their free time arguing with a liberal blogger that they likely have never met.
