One of the consistent storylines peddled by the right and repeated ad infinitum by the lapdog msm is that somehow its symbolic of something mean that the Democrats have thrown aside their previous vice presidential candidate for president.
But the idea that there has ever been any groundswell for Joe Lieberman is faulty. Al Gore picked Lieberman for his running effort in a misguided tactic to bring aboard someone who had publicly condemned President Clinton and shore up the Jewish vote. Of course, Lieberman failed at both efforts and never even had the decency to direct his energy 100% at running for vice president.
In 2004, there were groundswell efforts to have either Wes Clark or John Edwards picked as Kerry’s running mate (I specifically voted for Edwards in the Massachusetts primary to demonstrate that there was a strong Edwards contingent out there). There has never been any such love or interest in Lieberman. It’s a myth.

“There has never been any such love or interest in Lieberman.”
Even though he got more popular votes (’love’)as the VP candidate in 2000 than Cheney. I wonder who, then, exactly, is ‘loved’ and how you measure it.
Or is the progressive definiton of ‘love’ similar to the definiton of ‘lie’ - a kind of make-it-up-as-you-go-along thing?
I think the votes in question were for George Bush and Al Gore, respectively.
Weird to think that love can be measured and proved, though lying cannot. But when your standards are determined only by what best hurts liberals, I guess you find yourself bent into Dugger pretzels on a daily basis.
Why is it always the meme that the Democratic Party has turned it’s back on Joe Lieberman (especially by conservative pundits lately) when it seems pretty frakkin’ clear to me that lieberman has turned his back not only on the Democratic party but on his constituents and the voters of Conn.?
I’ll say it again; when you get endorsements from Tom DeLay, Rush Limbaugh, Ann coulter and Chris Matthews, it should be pretty clear you are no longer a Democrat.
And I for one never liked him for VP. He always reminds me of Droopy (y’know, the cartoon?).
Even if they were trying to shore up the jewish vote, could they have picked anyone besides a potted plant with less personality or charisma?
on May 27, Bush told West Point graduates, “When the
United Nations Security Council gave him [Saddam] one final chance to disclose and disarm, or face serious consequences, he refused to take that final opportunity.”
Iraq allowed scores of experts to conduct more than 700 inspections from Nov. 27, 2002, to March 16, 2003, right up to the invasion.
Even that should fit Dugger’s myopic definition of a lie.
Lieberman, much like McCain, has benefitted from a media supported effort to enshroud him in some sort of ridiculous aura of sainthood. His selection as the v.p. running mate by Gore was pure politics and had nothing to do with the man’s character. It was clearly understood at the time that Lieberman’s prominent position on Clinton’s transgressions and silly sh*t like video game violence ruining America’s youth were seen as a way to give the campaign some sort of moral standing with voters. Too bad neither Gore nor Kerry grew a pair in time to realize that playing nice wasn’t going to score them any points with a media establishment hungry to tear them down.
I want some Dugger pretzels now.
Lieberman also had some cred with social conservatives whom DLC types thought they could sway to vote for a Democrat. That never happened either.
Dugger pretzels — soft, pale, bland, and past their expiration date. Taste great dunked in plain, room temperature water! Get yours today!
No, you’re wrong. Oliver. I remember it clearly — Lieberman was brought aboard to assuage voters who thought Gore was not an exciting enough candidate to win the election.

PW;
Nice bit of sarcasm.
But it is the middle-of-the- roadkill cuisine which is in need of seasoning. It is the muddled and tepid center which compels even the most stalwart of left or right leaning politicos to sanitize, lobotomize and scrutinize every jot and tittle, that makes a prepared speech
The case of whether Joe was too conservative for the Democratic party is sort of a red herring. Realistically, in order to be a player, you have to be either a Donkey or an Elephant. There are very few other alternatives that have any shot at representation, let alone the White House. If one were cynical enough, you could postulate that Lieberman was in his heart a Republican, but only ran as a Dem to get the Jewish vote, the vast majority of whom are Dems. Not sure how that actually plays, though, as Jewish voting numbers are miniscule compared to the Christian majority. So, for someone to say Gore solely used Lieberman to get the Jewish vote is like saying Bush only used Cheney to get the Lithuanian vote. In the absence of a Conservative Party or Liberal Party, there must be a framework for liberal Republicans and conservative Democrats to peacefully co-exist, and still be supported by their constituents. Obviously, this did not work in Connecticut, much to my chagrin. Being Jewish, he was my guy. As for his prospects for VP or President, we’ll see a Black or Woman in that level of government before we’ll ever see a Jew.

Sorry, that double posted.
Actually, now that I think about it, my Dad did that. He is a Republican, but ran for State Senate in West Virginia as a Democrat to play the odds, so I’ll concede that Lieberman might have been doing the same thing. Of course, he lost, it’s West Virginia, after all.
Let’s measure the love CT had for Lieberman when he was running in the 2004 presidential primary. Remember it was his own state voting and — he came in a distant third, with 5.2% of the votes cast. It shouldn’t be a surprise that he also lost to Lamont.
Another thing– if he was so lovable to wingers they could have shown their love by voting for him as vice president in 2000.
