Some people in the continually losing Democratic establishment are simply confused at why many of us look with disdain at formerly intriguing publications like The New Republic. Well, when your editor in chief publishes a broadside against Democrats in the editorial pages of the most virulently anti-Democratic editorial page - The Wall Street Journal - that’s why. That Peretz chose to share his ideas on the same pages that called Bill Clinton a rapist, pushed Vince Foster to suicide, and is a regular publisher of smears against Democrats is amazing, yet par for the course for the entrenched party structure who sees nothing wrong with losing election after election. When the Democratic Establishment sits in hushed tones at their cocktail parties with the Republican Establishment and wonders "why are the Democratic voters so angry with us?" — this sort of behavior is prime material.

Suck. Indeed.
The reason Martin chose to publish his article in the Wall Street Journal editorial page is simple.
Other than the magazine his wife bought for him, they are the only other publication willing to publish the guy.
What they’re calling Joe and the other Dems is, “centrists,” and “bipartisan Dems.” What is becoming increasingly clear is that we should call them collaborationists.
Is it no wonder that there are those of us who think there is very little if any difference between the two parties? The evidence keeps mounting. Sometimes I can even convince my mother that there is no difference. It is amazing how fast she forgets, though. I think that can be said to be true with most of the rank and file who really wish their party was true to their beliefs, when it clearly is not. “Don’t vote third party, though. You might steal the election from the Dems!” “Pivotal time for the PARTY!!!!”
Hey, i_ween, after 2000, you still think there’s no difference between the parties? If no, how far are you out of your mind?
I gave up my New Republic subscription when they endorsed Lierberman in the Democratic primaries in 2004.
Jim H- so, in one post you call Dems “collaborationists.” And then you forget that and question my sanity? My point remains.
Absolutely. That’s one reason why I also let my TNR subscription lapse.
It’s amazing how smug an asshole like Peretz can still get even though he has been shown to be nothing but WRONG, WRONG, WRONG about everything he has been peddling re Iraq in recent years.
What a tool.
