New Boss, Old Boss

We’re making progress

U.S. and Iraqi authorities discovered an apparent death squad operating within the country’s Interior Ministry last month when Iraqi troops prevented a group of highway patrol officers from killing a Sunni Arab man the officers had arrested, an American military spokesman said Thursday.

Poor John Negroponte, once again he is going to be tarred with condoning or setting up death squads. This guy can’t catch a break!

why do you hate freedom? like the freedom to form death squads…

Errr…aren’t Iraqis in a position to stop this sort of thing now? I believe that means the new boss is not like the old boss.

Didn’t the British recently raid an Iraqi jail to free some of their soldiers? What was that about?

    JWG,
The Iraqis are in the same position to stop this sort of thing now as they were under Saddam. Of course, it’s a different group of Iraqi thugs in power now who have that choice. But the likelihood of the Badr Corps reforming itself is about as high as Uday Hussein humanizing Saddam’s Mukhbarat.

What organization during Saddam’s rule had the power to stop a death squad’s operations? OW’s citation says that current Iraqi troops stopped this death squad.

Time for a little shi’ite payback after years under the Baath party, maybe?
