Not Showing Up

Proving my point. Again on the media roundtable segment of “Meet the Press”, the left just refuses to show up. You’ve got Roger Simon, David Broder, NBC’s Kelly O’Donnell, and National Review’s Byron York. Would it have killed The American Prospect, The Nation, or christ, even The New Republic, push NBC to have one of them on there to counter a commited idealogical “journalist” like York?

Christ.

    Fred Branfman says;

“Russert began public life as a Democrat, and was for many years a card-carrying member of the so-called liberal media elite. After taking over Meet the Press, however, his ratings depended on repeat performances by government officials, whom he dares not seriously challenge for fear they will refuse to reappear on his show.”

So Russeteater has no principles, and he’s STUPID!

This fear of loss of access to the powerful in the Beltway is bolognious.

When the other side refuses to show up you have a lop-sided
show that does a disservice to the the boycotters.

THEY WILL SHOW! They have no choice. They need access.

Both Russeteater and Matthews have made this STUPID fear
of accessibility their excuse for taking the BUSHCO line and
sucking on their kneecaps for the vicarious thrill of being in the
    proximity of power.

    PATHETIC BEYOND WORDS.

    BTW;

I’m sure Russert sees Broder as a liberal representative, even though,
he could only be called a ‘token’ liberal. But anything remotely close
to the center (which has been moved somewhat to the right) is good
enough for a “journalist” with Russert’s reputation.

Russeteater’s staff select the guests (and they certainly know what their
boss wants) so you can’t really blame the left for not showing up.

Obama is on This Week. I have been slowly transitioning to ‘Steph
and think I will become a regular. Fed up with media toad and “Tweety”.

Russert worked for Cuomo & for Moynihan. His wife draws a paycheck from Graydon Carter over at Vanity Fair. If Russert is to your right it should make you wonder just how left you are.

  5. Gravatar Icon 5 Semanticleo

Matthews worked (past tense noted) for Tip O’Neil.

WTF does that have to do with the price of oranges in todays’ market?

  6. Gravatar Icon 6 EdgewaterJoe

Yep — it’s far more likely that PunkinHead simply doesn’t invite Democrats on to the show.

If he can constantly invite Brooks and Broder, it’s not that hard to move down the hall to find Krugman or Rich. Hell, if Russert had any guts he’d have a one-on-one with Arianna Huffington.

After all, is it the Democrats’ fault that Russert has asked more questions about Harry Belafonte’s comments than on Al Gore’s speech?

    I think not.

WTF? Kelly O’Donnell is certainly not conservative.

a commenter dopped this tidbit which I had missed from Roger Ailes
    (the good one).

“Oldie but goodie from MWO via Roger Ailes:

“Reliable sources have informed MWO that Jack Welch and Tim Russert attended last autumn’s Al Smith Dinner in New York together - and that Russert, on the back of his lapel, was cleverly wearing a Bush for President button.

Russert has reportedly tried to shrug off the incident in private, but has failed to discuss it publicly.

MWO has also been told that either during or after the campaign, Republican Welch chewed out his employee, NBC News correspondent Claire Shipman, for being too favorable to Gore in her reporting on the Vice President’s campaign. And Shipman’s bureau chief - Tim Russert - reportedly did not lift a finger to protect her or to protest Welch’s outrageous partisan interference.”

How far can one tilt to the right before they’re left again? How far left
is Russert? Does the terms ‘left’ or ‘right’ have any meaning in
    the context of this discussion?

    I think not.

Tim Russert is a regular provider of conservative misinformation.

  10. Gravatar Icon 10 elrod

The point is not whether Russert is an actual Democrat or Kelly O’Donnell is not a conservative. The problem is that there are no genuine liberals.

When you have Howard Dean refusing to show up to debate his Republican counterpart, what do you expect?

  12. Gravatar Icon 12 stick

    Semanticleo-
Somehow I believe that if Russert (or Matthews) had worked for Bill Frist or Pat Robertson you would would believe it had quite a bit to with “the price of oranges in today’s market”.

  13. Gravatar Icon 13 ian

Oh contraire, Oliver. Dean said he would appear and wossed out at the last moment. It’s because he knows he doesn’t have any opinions that he can argue in a civil way. He’s just there to bash Bush and not share you party’s agenda, not like there is one anyways.

  14. Gravatar Icon 14 Oliver Willis

Dean wasn’t on MTP to dignify Ken Mehlman, he appeared to advocate for the party he leads.

Woody Allen - Eighty percent of success is showing up.

Well, when 90% of the words that come out of Melhman’s mouth is a lie, can you blame Dean for not wanting to appear with him?

Still, I wouldn’t pin the blame on Democrats this time - liberal panelists can invite themselves on the show, they have to be invited by the shows producers. I’d blame the MTP crew for not inviting them in the first place.

  17. Gravatar Icon 17 Quaker in a Basement

    Oh contraire, Oliver.

This from the, er, man who was busting on somebody for spelling?

It’s au contraire, junior, not oh contraire. It’s French.

  18. Gravatar Icon 18 SaveFarris

Well, when 90% of the words that come out of Melhman s mouth is a lie, can you blame Dean for not wanting to appear with him?

Then Dean should have relished the chance for a mighty righteous smackdown. Yet he passed on this “golden opportunity”. Maybe because Melhman isn’t as untruthful as you (and Dean) say he is. Where is Dean’s courage of his convictions? Where is his spine?

I see a lot of posters echoed my reaction, wondering if people from the left are even invited. I’ll take it a step further and ask if anyone actually know the answer.

I have trouble believing that the Nation and others would turn down the opportunity, both for idealogical reasons and the need to puff their careers.

Oh, by the way, ignore Ian. Nothing to be gained from feeding him.
