The only thing I hate as much as right-wing cons is dumb Democrats, and when folks on the left do dumb things like Steve Gilliard did here - it pisses me off. Look, Michael Steele is a sock puppet for the Republican party and even if you think he is a shill for conservative bigots (as I happen to believe) - the best response is not doctoring a “Sambo” photo off him. Frankly, its among the dumbest responses you can come up with and even stupider to call the campaign of a Democrat weak for wanting their ad pulled from your, frankly, 2nd grade level rhetoric.

Lt. Gov.-elect Michael S. Steele said last night that he was personally upset by U.S. Sen.Trent Lott’s praise for Sen. Strom Thurmond and his segregationist past, but said Lott should not be forced to relinquish his leadership position in the Senate. “Trent Lott apologized, but he needs to keep apologizing because this is a very sensitive issue to the black community,” Steele (R) said at an event celebrating his election as
Maryland’s first black lieutenant governor. “I know Trent Lott personally, and I know that this is not his intent. But it’s still unfortunate. And I think he needs to apologize a little bit more.”
Two days earlier Karen Timulty wrote in a December 12, 2002 Time mag piece:
Senate Majority Leader Trent Lott helped lead a successful battle to prevent his college fraternity from admitting blacks to any of its chapters,… “Trent was one of the strongest leaders in resisting the integration of the national fraternity in any of the chapters,” recalls former CNN President Tom Johnson, then a Sigma Nu member at the University of Georgia.
Lott then subsequently left the university after obtaining a law degree to put his knowledge to work for one of congresses leading segregationists whose seat he later was elected to with the congressman s support. Any black man who excuses the segregationist past of any leader of his party and pronounces him still fit for leadership after he makes another inflammatory Freudian slip deserves to be caricatured as a black sambo and worse.

Prince George’s County’s rapidly increasing murder rate is second highest in Maryland and the highest in the Washington, DC, suburbs.
Prince George’s County’s schools are the second worst in Maryland and the worst in the Washington, DC, suburbs. The Black school chief recently resigned while being investigated by the FBI; one of his top assistants ($130,000 per year) has just been convicted on federal drug laundering charges and has been indicted on witness tampering charges.
Prince George’s County has more car thefts and violent carjackings than all the rest of Maryland and the DC suburbs put together.
Attacking Michael Steele is a good way for the Democrats to distract the public and the press from their ongoing abysmal failure to either protect or educate the people of Prince George’s County.
This would be the same Trent Lott who yesterday said he wanted the president to scour the nation for the best “man, woman, or minority” that he could find.
But that’s beside the topic. Steve Gilliard is a moron and a jackass.

Oliver said that what Gilliard did was “stupid.” He did not say it was wrong.
Why, then, did Oliver say that it was stupid? Well, simply because most decent human beings think that it was wrong.
But apparently not Oliver. But being an “ends justify the means” kind of Democrat, he’s willing to go along with the decent folks even though he apparently still seems to think that there’s nothing morally wrong with ridiculing African-Americans with racist stereotypes.

Almost everything Ms. Russell says about PG County is untrue or misleading.
But it’s intersting Ms. Russell seems to believe that all PG County’s problems are due to the fact blacks are the majority in PG County. This somehow translates into why Dems don’t lay down for Michael Steele.

Certainly. First, to say Steele is a native of the county is misleading. He was born at Andrews AFB (located in PG County) but spent his entire childhood in DC. He returned to reside in PG County in his late 20s, early 30s.
Second, is it shocking to find a county whose population is about 58% black would have a majority of elected officials that are black?

Umm, as a black majority county, it is. It leads the nation in per capita income for a black majority county. About 6% live at or below the poverty line which is better than the national averages for any county.

MD has 41 counties; of course, othere are only 3 main counties that have sizable populations: Baltimore, PG, and Montgomery. Ms. Russell is attempting to compare a county with a population of about a million with counties whose populations are 100,000 or less.

Not quite. In terms of elementary schools, PG County ranks third worst. In middle and high schools, PG County ranks slightly above the middle of the pack.
Also, this nonsense about ‘ worst in the Washington, DC, suburbs’ is a red herring. The suburbs surrounding DC are extremely affluent. Being the worst of these is akin to being the worst player in the NBA–you’re still a better ballplayer than 99.99% of the world.
