875.000 dollars gone…
Air America does NOT deny that they received the money…
inner city center for youngsters and the elderly shut down…
under investigation by AG elliot spitzer…
and it doesn’t deserve some reporting on?
Oh, thats right, the times is busy trying to figure out how to open Roberts’ adopted kids sealed records…
anytime Tom Delay is being INVESTIGATED its sure to be news…
and we all know about the Plame investigation that is still ongoing…
why the double standard in simply reporting the facts of the story?
Maybe you can explain to me why this non-scandal deserves to be reported. NY Times seemed to give it all the column space it deserved.
how many days does a story have to be NOT REPORTED for us crazy “bias pimps” to actually claim “bias”?
You gotta love how the MSM has ignored this incident
you were just claiming bias two posts ago about an incedent that happened yesterday that I saw reported on FOX (yesterday) and another reader read in the washington post !!
After one day!!
this has been three weeks. what gives?
Air America Statement:
If the allegations of mismanagement and corruption at Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club are true, it is absolutely disgraceful.
As reported in the Wall Street Journal and the HBO Documentary, Left of the Dial the company that the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club officials gave money to, Progress Media, has been defunct since May 2004. That company was run at the time by Evan Cohen who has not had any involvement in Air America Radio since May 2004.
The current owners of Air America Radio have no obligation to Progress Media’s business activities. We are very disturbed that Air America Radio’s good name could be associated with a reduction in services for young people, which is why we agreed months ago to fully compensate the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club as a result of this transaction.
We at Air America Radio strongly believe in the mission of Boys and Girls Clubs to provide a safe and nurturing place for young people to learn and grow. As a result, we recently allowed the same club, Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, to use our name in a fundraising effort for a summer camp for children in their community.
The funding for Camp Air America was raised and collected entirely by the Gloria Wise Boys & Girls Club, and Air America promoted the camp on air and urged support for it. A link on our web site sent those interested in contributing to the camp to the Gloria Wise web site. Regrettably, the camp did not survive the closure of the Gloria Wise organization. We have offered any individuals who contributed to the camp as a result of Air America’s promotion the option of a refund paid for by Air America Radio and the Club offered the alternative option of having their donation redirected to Kip’s Bay Boys and Girls Club.
________
What is the scandal here? Someone did something wrong, they left AA, AA paid them back despite having no obligation to do so, and even helped cover financial obligations that Wise incurred when they dissolved. This is a model of how companies should address any wrong doing.
By the way, when is Halliburton going to give back the millions of dollars it stole from the taxpayers for meals it didn’t serve?
Maybe the better question is, if instead of AA being tangentially involved, it was Joe’s Radio Corporation, which played big band music, would the NY Times have spent any less or more space on this, especially given the response of the accused company?
Would Weekly Standard and the other RW media have written a word about this if the problem was with Joe’s Radio Corp? I think we all know the answer to that one.
So are you suggesting that the Air America situation is not only similar to Haliburtons misdeeds but also seperating the two by claiming Air America Radio was a systematic problem, while Haliburton was just some guy? I sure hope you are not making these leaps Nickname because then you have been not only drinking the Kool-Aid, but you are damn near eating/snorting the crystals that are the Kool-Aid.
Hereby perhaps Stubb indirectly hinted, that though man loved his fellow, yet man is a money-making animal, which propensity too often interferes with his benevolence.——–Moby Dick
By the way, when is Halliburton going to give back the millions of dollars it stole from the taxpayers for meals it didn t serve?
Oh, you can’t say that. It’s just a couple of guys AT halliburton. I don’t think you should drag the good name of halliburton through the mud like that because SOMEBODY at halliburton did that….
that idea doesn’t really stand does it?
AA paid them back despite having no obligation to do so, and even helped cover financial obligations that Wise incurred when they dissolved. This is a model of how companies should address any wrong doing.
There’s only one small problem about your statement….It’s not true!!
They have not paid anyone anything yet…look it up!!
So really you are just mad at one guy Evan Cohen. For a second I thought you were trolling about an liberal organization. If I were to humour your rant, then I supposed you are equally pissed that Enron, Tyco liberally spent and did not return investors money, or are you only mad at Ken Lay? I find listening to you so perplexing because somehow you convelude corporate and personal responsibility as you see fit. You are somehow godless and yet a god fearing worker ant. Perhaps laying off your mobious script would clear things up. I guess I have to “keep hope alive” as Jesse Jackson says:(
“This whole act’s immutably decreed. ‘Twas rehearsed by thee and me a billion years before this ocean rolled. Fool! I am the Fates’ lieutenant; I act under orders.”
“Omen? omen?–the dictionary! If the gods think to speak outright to man, they will honourably speak outright; not shake their heads, and give an old wives’ darkling hint.
hey white whale! that idea doesn t really stand does it?
it’s called reading, but at least you got a good one in…snorting kool-aid…ha ha ha!!
it is, however, difficult to seperate crook from company. I’d be shocked if the average american can name one of the crooks from global crossing, or tyco. Unfortunantly, evan cohen has tarnished the image of AAR, who HAVE NOT PAYED THE KIDS BACK YET!
Looking at the lies and fingerpointing going on at Air America right now brings to light a few interesting points:
1) “The current owners of Air America Radio have no obligation to Progress Media s business activities.”
Boy, that’s just rich. I’m sure that if J. P. Morgan Chase or Wachovia had just told the press that they had zero obligation to the descendants of slaves traded by their predecessor banks, then Jesse Jackson would pack up the whole reparations shake down operation and walk away. Right?
2) The NYT generously wrote dozens of stories about the launch of Air America, even about the most trivial things. But only one insignificant mention of this scandal? Please.
3) When the major corporate accounting scandals broke in 2001, one of the most oft-repeated memes by the Left was “PAY IT BACK!”
4) Jeanene Garafalo and Al Franken are wealthy, elitist Hollywood/media stars. They have money. Lots of it. If they really believed what they preached on the air every day, then they would have been the first to pull out their checkbooks and give to Gloria Wise.
5) Tom DeLay has already been tried, convicted, sentenced, and imprisoned by partisan liberals — without a single criminal indictment in the real world. But the Air America disgrace - currently the subject of both New York City and New York Attorney General investigations — is simply the product of the fevered imagination of right-wing “bias pimps” (whatever that means)?
The truth about Air America is that it exposes the fact that rich, New York liberals are just as greedy and deceptive as the Republican stereotypes that they so passionately love to hate.
News Flash: We’re all HUMAN. Falling off that “ubermensch’ pedestal kind of hurts, though, doesn’t it?
Well, when Joe of Joe’s Radio Corporation announed he was going into detox for an addiction to painkillers, I seem to recall the NYT running a story or thousand. Front page and everything.
Why the double standard?
More crazy FACTS from a “bias pimp”…
ABC gave the Air America debut a morning news story, an evening news story and an entire broadcast of “Nightline.” Coverage of their scandal? None.
CBS promoted the launch in brief anchor mentions, and then aired a long profile of Air America star Al Franken on “Sunday Morning.” Scandal coverage? Zip.
NBC highlighted the launch with a Franken interview in the morning, and an evening news story. Scandal coverage? Nothing.
NPR promoted the launch on their talk show “Talk of the Nation,” as well as their evening news show “All Things Considered,” but then aired a critique of their programming on the same show a few weeks later from Michael Harrison. Scandal coverage? Zero.
Then there’s CNN, which aired Air America start-up stories in heavy rotation on the weekend before the network debut, as well as promotional stories across their prime-time lineup on Debut Day.
A few days after the scandal broke, CNN’s blog reporter noted in the afternoon that bloggers Brian Maloney and Michelle Malkin were pushing this story.
But CNN has had no story of its own.
That’s rich, because in October of 2003, when “NewsNight” anchor Aaron Brown was announcing his smirk over Rush’s troubles, he brought on his guest — ready for this? — Al Franken, who sneered Limbaugh could never recover, because then he’d have “nothing left” for radio.
Has anyone been charged? Indicted? Put on trial?
does this apply to Rush or Tom Delay?
[Tom Delay] ‘ought to go back to Houston where he can serve his jail sentence,” -Howard Dean-
Has anyone been charged? Indicted? Put on trial?
Look back at any corporate scandal story. The coverage doesn’t happen until there’s a perp walk.
Trust me. If Eliot Spitzer hauls Al Franken into court, there’ll be coverage.
I thought we were talking about the AA “scandal.” You know, corporations? Weren’t you asking why there’s been so little coverage of it?
I suggested one possible answer. Have anything to say about that?
The New York Department of Investigation has issued all of one press release about Gloria Wise and it didn’t mention the Air America loans. According to the reporting in the New York Sun, the DOI has asked Air America NOT to pay money directly to Gloria Wise Boys and Girls Club but to deposit it in an escrow account.
As to all the “MSM” outlets that are supposedly ignoring the story, who besides the New York Sun has done any original reporting on this? Every other outlet that I’ve seen has referred to the Sun’s stories without having anything to add. Curious, no?
The reporter who has been covering this for the Sun, David Lombino, isn’t a staff reporter, he’s a freelancer (you can tell by the “Special to the Sun” in his byline). He’s listed as a member of the editorial staff of the Litchfield County (CT) Times, but their own search engine doesn’t produce any stories by him after 2003. Up until that time, he was writing things like “So, What’s Up With the Price of Plywood?”
So if I understand you, nickname, you’re asking why legitimate news outlets aren’t rushing to repeat a story that so far has been reported only by one outlet (and that one with a clear ideological bent) and by one reporter with no track record.
Do I have that right? Yup. Sounds like “liberal bias” to me.
Yeah, the reporter is a no talent hack from nowhere with no history, oh and he’s biased, so The New York Times deems HIS info good enough and doesn’t look into the story themselves…nice try.
Every other outlet that I ve seen has referred to the Sun s stories without having anything to add BECAUSE THEY DON’T WANT TO FIND OUT ANYTHING!!
It’s called INVESTIGATIVE REPORTING.
How about some interviews with the key people involved?
..From Gloria wise, from air America, from al Franken, anyone, c’mon
N.Y. Community Center Loan Investigated
That s an actual headline from the AP. do they want people to read the dang thing? Not mentioning Air America in the headline. They are in the business of getting people to READ their stuff.
If someone improperly “loaned” money to Halliburton do you think the headline would read
Loan investigated for Texas based business.
Halliburton would get the attention, it’s what sells. They are not stupid and neither am I.
Give me a break Quaker…you’ve done more investigation on this than the New York Times has, something is not right.
Kudos to you!
Within “every other outlet,” I’m including bastions of liberal bias like Fox News. You’re telling me that Fox News doesn’t want to find out anything? I doubt it.
The NYT has apparently published one article on the matter. Maybe you missed that one.
However, I’m sure you’ll be outraged to find that they too failed to splash Air America’s name in the headline. Why do you suppose that is?
Never mind. I’ve heard the “liberal bias” rant enough times to know it chapter and verse and there’s no way to make it fit here. Gloria Wise is being investigated for a whole pattern of financial impropriety. The loans to Progress Media are just one part of it.
You’d love to see Air America’s name in the headlines, not because of its role in the story, but to support your own biases.
