Your so-called liberal media marches on. CBS is pleased because their anchorman gets White House plaudits
“That’s not the end-all, be-all, but obviously the White House doesn’t hate CBS anymore with Schieffer in the chair,” Moonves said in an interview Wednesday at the TV critics’ summer meetings here.
*closes eyes*
Wait. Let me guess. Rich white guy!
*opens eyes*
Yes!

Oliver- this has got to be one of your lamest posts in a long, long time. Not even worth more comment than that.
Rethugs can’t have just anybody repeating their propaganda.
The mere fact that Schieffer is the “interim” anchor does not represent a policy shift at CBS. CBS’ ratings were in the toilet thanks to Rather and Co. and CBS chose not to shake things up but rather (pun intended), chose a non-controversial “interim” anchor who happens to be well respected by both sides. And yes, they also probably took into account the fact that Schieffer is not the flaming partisan liberal (at least I don’t think he is) that Rather is. The fact that the WH doesn’t hate Schieffer doesn’t mean that CBS got “approval” from the WH or that the WH merely doesn’t hate anyone but Rather. As Marty points out, the headline is a bit silly.
Bear in mind, to the extent it matters (and I have no idea how news programs are produced, so maybe it doesn’t matter) Schieffer is solely the anchor whereas Rather was also Managing Editor. I assume (and I very well may be wrong) that Schieffer more or less just reads the news whereas Rather had a bigger hand in shaping the actual broadcast.
This was a business decision having no bearing on the amount of liberalism in the mainstream media.
Of course Schieffer is liberal and the WH was being more gracious than need be. As conservatives, we know Big Media is liberal and will stay that way. As far as we are concerned, the likelihood is that Schieffer will be a more honest liberal Dan, the Forger’s pal, Rather. ( I bet ol’ Dan is out there right now trying to run down that forgery story. Probably runs into OJ looking for Nicole’s killer.)
Dugger. Connosewer of alltime great lyrics: “But that ain’t the thing that makes me shout, Lite’s less filling that really knocks me out.” Smokin’ Joe Frazhuh, 197-whatever .
Poor Marty, he just doesn’t like it when you try to give concrete examples of the LACK of liberalism in today’s media, it just doesn’t agree with his preconceived notions of how the world works.
That and there just wasn’t enough of a post for him to come up with a really pithy judgemental response other than “lamest”
Rather is/was a flaming partisan liberal? Its so good of you to inform us of that, we had no idea, as most of his reporting has been pretty non-partisan and balanced (as compared to Fox, especially).
I suppose you’ll drag out the “forged” memo now, and you’ll also point us to the link where the person that reports on how the person the forged the memo was arrested and is awaiting trial?
I guess that explains why GWB nominated their White House Correspondant to the Supreme Court…
Of course you are correct as always. What was I thinking? Rather is as nonbiased and nonpartisan as they come. It was a sad day when he was forced out by CBS.
Actually, there is a great deal of uncertainty as to whether the docs were forged. I’ll admit there are well-intentioned folks who suggest–strongly–that they are. But there is no evidence to conclude this is the case.
Additionally, we know Killian’s secretary and several colleagues believe the docs are bogus–but say the content is accurate.
You miss what really was Ratherand CBS’s sin–that they could not firmly establish the provenance of the docs. Not that the story itself was false. IOW, you can’t frame a guilty man.
Jadegold’s post really is too stupid for words.
Ole binkyboy,
I notice you put “forged” in quotes. Why? Is there still any question that the doc was forged? I thought we already dealt with that.
Here’s what I don’t understand…why can’t anchors and reporters just give us the news? When did their opinions and politics become so important? I can formulate my own thoughts based on what is reported. But it’s biased from both sides. There is no more just reporting the news anymore. If there was to be an editorial comment it used to be identified as such. News organizations now have political agendas. BOTH SIDES DO THIS! I cannot think of any news source out there that just gives you the story without espousing ideology of some sort. It makes me sad to think that everyone feels they have to tell us what to think and when to think it. News to me should be reporting the events as they have happened. No spin, no agenda etc. The right feels like they have to push their ideology hard to make it stick. Listening to the right is like a broken record. The left isn’t any better because their message is never coherent. The right is rigid in ideology and the left isn’t real sure what there’s is but it must be different from the rights. Ugh! Makes my damn head hurt.
Apparently, such ’stupidity’ didn’t deter PSU.
If its not dressed in brown with jackboots, must be a liberal.
Bob Schieffer a liberal?
The same Bob Schieffer whose brother was GWB’s partner in owning the Texas Rangers baseball club? The same Bob Schieffer who used to attend ballgames and play golf with W?
Damn that liberal bias.
Uh people?- It’s a BS headline and misderected story that plays little word games with your minds.
Let’s see. Les Moonves is quoted, That s not the end-all, be-all, but obviously the White House doesn t hate CBS anymore with Schieffer in the chair.
Yep. CBS MUST have gotten approval from the White House before they picked Schieffer. Sounds like a pretty strong endorsement of CBS by W himself. HA!
You call that a concrete example, BinkyBoy?
“Well, I don’t hate the Red Sox anymore now that they won the World Series, but I still think they suck.”
*ding*
“I don’t hate CBS anymore now that Bob Schiefer is at the desk. But that’s only because Dan Rather is GONE! They still suck though.”
*ding*
White House plaudits. Right. LOL.
And QITB- Are you saying that brothers (or even business partners for that matter) automatically have the same political views? Are you saying that I can’t be friends or associate with liberals?
Maybe you’re not a golfer or a baseball fan. If your brother was business partners with, let’s say, Mitt Romney, and owned the Mets, and he invited you to go to a game or to play golf with he and Mitt, D’ya think you would pass because of politics?
(Gosh- I better not call my mother tonight like I was planning. She’s a total liberal and I’m not. Oh no- what do I do?)
It’s an accurate headline.
Frankly, no self-respecting news organization should give a tinker’s dam about what the WH thinks.
I know Mouse, but I didn’t think I’d have to spell it out either.
Yeah, Jade. I know. Fake but accurate. (Hmm. I’ve heard that before…)
Even if CBS hired Rush Limbaugh to be the new anchor, the right wing would still be accusing CBS of being too liberal. That’s because they just cannot believe what they hear. Besides, most right-wing nuts that I know, refuse to watch ABC, CBS or NBC because Rush has convinced them that they cannot believe anything they put out.
It seems as if Conservatives rarely mean what they say.
You mean this un-liberal Dan Rather?
“The same Bob Schieffer whose brother was GWB s partner in owning the Texas Rangers baseball club? The same Bob Schieffer who used to attend ballgames and play golf with W?’
In one swift, incisive blow, Quaker establishes that Schieffer cannot be liberal.
Dugger, Who Once Ate at a Table next to Dianne Sawyer and Ed Bradley and Therefore, Something or the Other - i bet nobody reads this far down anyway
Hey- I was interviewed by Diane Sawyer. What’s that supposed to mean Dugger?
Marty,
It all depends on when you were interviewed. If it was the darkside Diane Sawyer who worked for the evil Lord Milhouse who interviewed you, then you are obviously simply a press hating Republican. If it was the older, CBS blonde-bombshell-news-babe Diane Sawyer, rumored in some circles to be Dan’s “Kenneth”, then you are obviously a running dog lackey of the liberal hegemonistic mainstream media.
Dugger, ‘Though “bother it” I may occasionally say, I never use a big, big D’
