It happens, on occasion. But he’s right here that CNN, MSNBC, and FOX are really missing the boat on getting their video assets out there on the web. They all pump out a lot of video, but they all use popups and make their video blog unfriendly (not to mention MSNBC’s boneheaded decision to exclude all browsers but IE from using their stuff). The first web news provider who makes it a no-brainer to link to their video will win the video war.

I am in absolute agreement with you. As a video compressionist in my spare time, I always wondered why these guys never managed to put up some high quality feeds.
I even subscribed to Real’s RealPass just to see what CNN’s “premiere” content looked like. For $15 a month, you can see 320×240 video compressed with an outdated codec (RealVideo
at 15 frames/second. Not only that, but their highest bandwidth level is a 300kilobit stream. Not impressive at all. I promptly cancelled.
Fox is slightly ahead of the game right now–with a very well designed (free) playback page and RealVideo 9 for the majority of their content.
CNN just recently changed from their premiere/RV content to free Windows Media content. Naturally, it is quite broken in Firefox, which sucks. But then again, so does Windows Media Video.
