My colleague at Media Matters, Simon Maloy, has an excellent piece about how silly the right sounds when they try to claim South Park as their own: Oh My God! They Tried to Steal South Park!
South Park lambasted the Bush administration and the GOP during the Terri Schiavo controversy. After Kenny suffers yet another unfortunate accident and ends up in a persistent vegetative state, he becomes the focal point in a war between heaven and hell. For Satan, victory requires that Kenny’s feeding tube remain inserted (if he dies, Kenny will lead God’s armies against Satan). When Satan inquires of his evil servant, Kevin, how he plans to keep Kenny alive, Kevin responds: “I will do what we always do: use the Republicans.”
Examples of South Park’s conservative mockery abound; targets have included Bill O’Reilly, country music, Mormons, gun nuts, Wal-Mart, and other conservative shibboleths.

South Park skewers liberals as tree huggers also, it is an equal opportunity offender.
I think it’s pretty interesting that Republicrits can’t watch a TV show without trying to claim it as their “own”.
One of the creators (can’t remember which, the blonde one) once said “I hate Republicans almost as much as I hate liberals.”
So neither side gets to claim it.
Agree SP lobs grenades in both camps but the very fact that it goes after some sacred liberal icons (in addiiton to relentlessy going after Christianity etc) makes it “seem” pro conservative to us.

I think it’s pretty interesting that Democrats can’t watch a TV show without trying to claim it as their “own”.
South Park takes a very libertarian attitude towards the usse the address. This is why pro-environment liberals (the tree-huggers) are mocked- libertarians dont believe in envirmontal regualtions for the most part. THey also mock the Christian Right for their attempts to impose their morals on everyone.
usse the = issues they
why cant i edit?
The term “South Park Republican” was meant to describe a Republican that doesn’t adhere to the ideals and positions of the more conservative wing of the GOP.
The right has never tried to claim South Park as it’s “own.”
I know I keep posting these guys, but this is worth reading.
This Book Sucks: an Analysis of “South Park Conservatives” From a Republican
His further comments follow along the same vein.
Point is, just because someone writes a book doesn’t mean it somehow becomes gospel for Republicans.
(Read: neoconsrloopy, do some research before making blanket, generalizing statements)
I thought a SouthPark Republican, was the type of Republican who might enjoy watching South Park. Not all Republican as religious prigs. See for example P. J. O’Rourke.
There are a lot of Republicans who enjoy grade school potty humor, profanity, booze, drugs, prostitutes, bigiotry, bar fights, etc. and some of them admit some of their enjoyments.
