It’s no surprise that, unable to convince local hero Cal Ripken to run for the open senate seat in Maryland, the GOP has annointed Michael Steele, the Lt. Governor, as their candidate. I don’t know about you, but I find it odd that the crony of the governor who’s shutting down the state offices that enforce minimum wage laws is going to run for the senate here.

I was not really surprised by this selection…after all, the GOP bench in this state is pretty shallow.
However, running Steele gives the GOP another argument to use: instead of just saying “Democrats hate America, vote for us!” They can say “Democrats hate Steele because they’re a bunch of racists! Vote for us!”

Randi Rhodes has it right- the right wants you to vote for their candidates because they are black.
We want you to vote for our black candidates because they are qualified.
My prediction, when Steele loses, he will join FNC as their black “contributor” to go along with JC Watts. That’s about as far as you’ll ever be elected in the Republican party if you are black.
“Michael Steele” sounds liks a porn actor’s name to me…and that’s reason enough to vote for the other guy.
