So, as usual I’m up at 3 in the morning and channel surfing and I run across the Disney Channel and Hannah Montana is on. I’ve studiously tried to avoid this whole tween thing, because it’s stupid and makes me feel old. But I say, hey let’s see what all the kids are raving about*.

Boy, what a suckfest.

Just comparing it to kid tv it is bad. The entire show consists of Miley Cyrus / Hannah Montana staring at the camera and saying stock phrases along the lines of “WOAH DAD YOU ARE SO UNCOOL!” and her father, played by her real dad Billy Ray Cyrus says “I AM A HICK WHO LOVES MULLETS”. Cue canned laughter.

The bar for kid sitcoms is pretty low. And yet, somehow this show is bad. Considering the stuff I grew up on: You Can’t Do That On Television, Pete & Pete or even more recent kidvid like Rugrats or Jimmy Neutron, the Hannah Montana show is really insulting to kids. It says, you are children and as such we’ll offer you substandard entertainment. What the heck?

Now get off my lawn so I can watch Danny Phantom and Fairly Oddparents.**

*I watch all sorts of TV. I like wrestling, PBS, network sitcoms, kids tv, news, dramas of all sorts except Studio 60.

**(Shows I actually will watch. Fairly Oddparents has a fairy that’s a parody of Arnold Schwarzenegger, that is quality freaking television)

Weird.
Innis was a campaign chair for Alan Keyes though, so I clearly trust his judgement.

The news really isn’t that Carson Daly is going to cross the strike picket line, but that his show has writers. Even by the very low standards of network television, the Carson Daly show is a singularly unfunny bit of material. I’ve occasionally seen the beginning of the show after leaving the TV on NBC after the actually hilarious Conan O’Brien, and never seen a thing worth cracking a smile let alone a laugh over. I just always assumed Daly had compromising photos of some GE executive and thats how he kept his Byron Allen style TV show on the air.

Was I the only one who found the standing ovation for the Sopranos during last night’s Emmy awards to be a little ridiculous? Time and time again the insider Hollywood media has touted the Sopranos, but on balance is it right to put Sopranos in the same pantheon as mass-culture phenoms like All In The Family, Seinfeld, Cosby, Hill Street Blues, etc.? Did any of those shows get the spotlight after their last year like a premium cable show did last night?

I don’t think so.

Time travel? I’m in. I love time travel stories. Whether it’s running into historical figures, alternate timelines (Biff Tannen runs a casino????) or just general chronal tomfoolery, I’m all for it. Love the time travel genre, and while the special effects in this current incarnation of Dr. Who could do with an upgrade, I’m watching. And I see that this woman (Freema Agyeman) is going to be featured. Let’s go into the Tardis, mates.

When the government wanted to cut Public Television funds in 1969, the relatively unknown Mister Rogers went to Washington. Almost straight out of a Capra film, his 5-6 minute testimony on how TV had the potential to give kids hope and create more productive citizens was so simple but passionate that even the most gruff politicians were charmed. While the budget should have been cut, the funding instead jumped from $9 to $22 million. Rogers also spoke to Congress, and swayed senators into voting to allow VCR’s to record television shows from the home. It was a cantankerous debate at the time, but his argument was that recording a program like his allowed working parents to sit down with their children and watch shows as a family.

But in TV-Land, Tiffani Amber Thiessen is right out of med school.

Tiffani Thiessen always looked good as one of the fashionable residents of the popular TV series “Beverly Hills, 90210.” She could have used some of that cool clothing on the set of her latest movie.

The 33-year-old actress got her fill of what she called “horrible, horrible” hazardous-materials suits while filming “Pandemic,” which airs Saturday (8 p.m. EDT) on the Hallmark Channel.

Thiessen plays a doctor who leads a team from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that is trying to stop the spread of an avian flu-like virus. The team rushes to locate a vaccine that can be given to residents of Los Angeles as the city is quarantined after thousands of people are infected.

If he did, I’d probably go for more checkups.

I’m only watching because there’s no other good show on to take up its slot. Still, eh.

** SPOILERS ***

- So Jack and Kate are in the future? But Jack was talking about his dad, and that was in the past. And wasn’t that baldheaded doctor around Locke when he was in the hospital? Or did I imagine that?
- Why hasn’t any character grabbed an Other and say “tell me what’s going on or I will kill you”?
- Happy when Sayid shot Tom (I’m happy when any Others suffer, they piss me off)
- Is there a law that every new attractive woman (Naomi) on the island has to die?
- Walt shows up and he’s older. Of course he hasn’t been on the show for like two years, and forget about his dad.
- Locke can’t walk but somehow he’s flying across the island like a banshee
- Ben: please somebody kill him
- Still don’t trust Juliet
- Glad to see Hurley being more than obligatory fat guy
- Charlie’s death was done well, although I wonder if Eyepatch Russian guy is really dead. Because he’s been shocked, harpooned and still lived…
- What the heck happened to the three toed statue and the smoke and the polar… sigh.
- Do you believe Ben’s whole spiel about the evil coming to the island? I think he’s just a bad guy, and I hate the whiny way he talks.

*** SPOILERS ***

So, overall I was pleased with the episode. They wrapped up the major storyline (hello, Lost, I’m looking at you) and gave a heck of a teaser for the fanboys (like me) to ponder over the summer (they finally found a link to the eclipse we see every week, but had to go back almost 400 years to make it).

- Nathan was pissing me off all episode because I felt that he really had made a turn to evil completely, and he still was about 90% with the plan. I guess the whole thing was that had Claire not been saved she would not have been the linchpin in Nathan’s final act. So saving the cheerleader was a catalyst for saving the world.

- I was actually fooled by Shapeshifter Woman. I thought “Of all the times for Nikki to have one of her existential throw downs she picks NOW?” Does the fact that she saw her own reflection yet retained Jessica’s super strength (that whack on Sylar was soooo satisfying) mean that she’s integrated both sides of herself? In a perverse sort of way I wanted D.L. to be dead.

- How is Parkman not dead? His power is reading minds, not surviving five bullets to the chest. Or is it?

- I loved the whole Hiro Is A Badass element of the story. Yes, Hiro allows the nerds to vicariously through him because he’s living the dream. But, so what?

- Clearly Sylar is not dead. Why didn’t Hiro or someone else cut off his head before he could crawl down the sewer? <strike>He’s got Claire’s regeneration powers and a blade to the back isn’t going to stop him (remember she survived Ted Sprague’s gigantic explosion at her house)</strike>. Plus he’s got all the other powers he’s amassed and no more Peter to counter him.

- Are they a superteam or not now? Even though he’s apparently powerless, Noah (HRG) is clearly the leader and most knowledgeable about the whole bad guy network and Molly knows the Big Evil Guy only she has seen outranks Sylar. Is everyone just going to go home now or are they going to Heroes HQ to come up with codenames? Heh.

Of all the new series – there are six altogether, including a reality show, “The Singing Bee” – the one gaining perhaps the most coveted spot on the NBC schedule is “Journeyman,” which features Mr. McKidd as a San Francisco reporter who travels through time to right wrongs in history and his personal life.

The names that come to mind:
Sam Beckett.
Al Calavicci.

AKA, Quantum Leap, my favorite tv show of all time.

“And so Dr. Beckett finds himself leaping from life to life, striving to put right what once went wrong, and hoping each time that his next Leap…will be the Leap home…”

Another great episode, we get backstory and some answers as well as new questions!

*** SPOILERS ***

- I thought it was weird how all of a sudden Sylar turns from murder machine to pseudo-sympathetic, and how icky was it that he drew the picture with his mothers blood?

- I’ve never liked Nathan Petrelli, but do you think he’s just playing along with Linderman to stop the bomb? In the future he wasn’t the president, but Sylar pretending to be him. And I knew his mom was power-hungry, but she’s clearly up to her neck in Linderman’s nutty death cult.

- Damn you, Hiro, cut his head off! Was it significant that Hiro could use his powers even after the sword was broken?

- Who’s sexier? Jessica or the Evil Illusion Woman (Missy Peregrym)? Also, I find it weird that the character is more attractive to me when she’s she-devil Jessica than goody-two-shoes Niki.

- I wonder if Micah’s power is connected to the little girl’s power?

- You would think Peter Petrelli would go “oh, that’s the exploding guy from my drawing, maybe I shouldn’t stand right next to him”, but noooooo

- I think Claire’s one of the most realistically written teenagers on tv. Being a superpowered freak sucks, but she knows she has a place of destiny.

- Only two more episodes and then an entire Hero-less summer? Oh, cruel fates.

Breaking News: Major Changes Ahead for Lost” href=”http://www.eonline.com/gossip/kristin/detail/index.jsp?uuid=75ed77ee-1972-467a-8f4e-b11e4b6a1259#digg_link=http%3A%2F%2Fdigg.com%2Ftelevision%2FBREAKING_Lost_to_end_after_two_more_seasons”>good news.

According to these sources, ABC will be making an announcement declaring an end date for Lost very soon. However, the exact number of remaining episodes and seasons is still muddy—and might not be exactly two seasons.

The last season and a half, Lost has ground to a halt. I only watch because I want to see how it ends. The characters are never curious, they never ask basic questions anybody would ask, and not a single question has been seriously answered and then they just pile more on it. Heroes has been on 3/4 of a season and has already answered more questions than Lost has in 3 seasons!

It’s sad to see a show I really genuinely like just grind to a halt like Lost has.
