I Want A Space Shuttle For Christmas

Is that too much to ask?

NASA’s soon-to-be-retired space shuttles are up for grabs.
The space agency said Wednesday it’s looking for ideas on where and how best to display its space shuttles once they stop flying in a few years. It’s put out a call to schools, science museums and ‘other appropriate organizations’ that might be [...]

The End Is Near

There’s a black hole in the middle of the milky way.
There is a giant black hole at the centre of our galaxy, a study has confirmed.
German astronomers tracked the movement of 28 stars circling the centre of the Milky Way, using the European Southern Observatory in Chile.
The black hole is four million times heavier than [...]

I Got Yer Infrastructure Here

President-elect Obama talked in his radio address about infrastructure investment to create jobs. In addition to public works may I suggest… MARS? Not only would a Mars mission help science-related jobs but we need blue collar work for it as well.
Probably a pipe dream but a boy can dream.

Sally Ride For Obama

As OW.com readers know, we place a special value on people who have gone into space. Sally Ride went into space. And she endorses Obama.
Sally Ride, the first American woman in space, endorsed the Democratic candidate on Wednesday in an op-ed published in the Orlando Sentinel.
Comparing Obama’s inspirational capabilities to those of JFK, she writes, [...]

Congratulations to China for doing what Russia and the USA did 43 years ago. I mean, great for them, but come on.

Former Ohio Senator John Glenn and current U.S. Senator Bill Nelson of Florida, both former astronauts, said flying [...]

Is Brian Williams Right?

He takes Reuters to task for sending out a story about possible life on Mars, saying that the story about selling GM and the Supreme Court 2nd Amendment case is more important.
I’m inclined to disagree with him because cosmically the Mars story is FAR more important. But I’m clearly biased.

When We Left Earth

Did any of you catch this miniseries? So awesome, especially if you love space exploration as I do. And Gary Sinise had just the right voice for the narration. As soon as I get a Blu-Ray player I’m ordering this thing.

What especially struck me was just how cool the original astronauts were. Those guys are [...]

Martian “Glitch”?

One of these days the Martians are going to show us they don’t like how we keep sending all these robots to probe their planet. Today may be that day.
