Dave Checketts, chairman of the NHL’s St. Louis Blues and the point man in the Limbaugh group attempting to buy the Rams, realizes he must remove the controversial conservative radio host from his potential role as a minority member in the group in order to get approval from other NFL owners, the sources said.

Three-quarters of the league’s 32 owners would have to approve any sale to Limbaugh and his group. Earlier this week, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay predicted that Limbaugh’s potential bid would be met by significant opposition. Several players have also voiced their displeasure with Limbaugh’s potential ownership position, and NFL Players Association head DeMaurice Smith, who is black, urged players to speak out against Limbaugh’s bid.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell failed to offer support of Rush Limbaugh’s bid to buy the Rams on Tuesday and said the talk-show host’s ‘divisive comments’ would not be welcome in the league.

‘I’ve said many times before, we’re all held to a high standard here,’ Goodell told reporters, via the New York Times.

‘I would not want to see those comments coming from people who are in a responsible position in the NFL –- absolutely not.’

The outspoken and lively 97-year-old mother of Arizona Sen. John McCain appeared Wednesday night on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno” and was more than willing to go where no Republican—at least publicly–seems willing to go on Rush.

“I don’t know what the man means, I don’t know what the man’s talking about,” McCain said of Limbaugh, when asked about her views on commentators on the left and right.

Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele had few allies earlier this year when he characterized Rush as “an entertainer” who doesn’t speak for the party. He later apologized.

Steele was “exactly right when he defined this man as an entertainer,” McCain said Wednesday. “And to my horror the Republican Party made him back up on it.”

Its brilliance like this that has led the right to its current level of power in American politics. Look out below.

Bobby Jindal joins his fellow Republicans in defense of Leader Limbaugh’s edict that they want the President to fail in his leadership of the country. I’m glad he cleared that up.

What we know has failed is the reflexive partisan politics of the past that Rush Limbaugh and his Republican party continue to be mired in. Rather than rooting for failure, we urge the Republican party to play a constructive role in moving the country forward and offer a budget proposal,” said DNC National Press Secretary Hari Sevugan.

Then he realized the grave injustice he had done to the leader of the Republican party, bent down, and groveled to the right’s leader.

Over the past few weeks, the White House has been casting right-wing talk show host Rush Limbaugh as the head of the Republican Party, and based on a new CBS News poll, it appears they may be onto something: According to the poll, Limbaugh’s favorable rating stands at just 19 percent, a full 43 points lower than President Obama’s.

I’m sure that 19% maps perfectly on the dead-enders who supported Bush all the way to the end, as well as the Tea Bag party attendees. It’s the same element.

With a national debate raging over the place of radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh in the Republican Party, a new national survey from Democracy Corps and Greenberg Quinlan Rosner finds that Limbaugh weighs down heavily on an already weakened Republican Party – putting Republican leaders and their party’s conservative base voters out of sync with not only Democrats and independents, but even the bloc of moderate Republicans. On virtually every question the great majority of the mainstream rejects Limbaugh’s ideas and vision of the Republican Party, which severely constrains Republican elected leaders. It does not help that some of the key voters in the 2006 and 2008 elections, like younger voters, are particularly uncomfortable with Limbaugh’s politics. Conservative Republican voters, however, embrace Limbaugh, giving him a very high favorability rating; they say he shares their values and urge Republican leaders to defend him when he is criticizing President Obama.

Remarkably, voters view Limbaugh negatively by a two-to-one ratio (53 to 26 percent), with nearly half the country, 45 percent, viewing him very, very negatively. Among independents, the ratio rises to three-to-one. More important are the values that Limbaugh espouses. By a nearly two-to-one ratio (57 to 32 percent) a majority of voters – and independents – say Limbaugh does not “share their values,” but Republicans are in a different world where, by two-to-one, they believe he shares them.
